Yes I also enjoyed and used SKW2 for many years and when I changed over to 64-bit Windows I begrudgingly moved to SK98. But even that has become more difficult to deal with every time Windows upgrades to a newer version.
I think I sort of remember Yourway but it was certainly not a forerunner of Sidekick. I believe Sidekick was around in Dos version before it was on Windows but I might be wrong.
Not sure what Samsung SmartSwitch would have to do with anything but I have also struggled over the years getting Sidekick to work with each Windows upgrade. You probably already know this but the first best thing is to NOT allow the installation to put thing in the Programs folder and to just...
Here is one other quirk I recently discovered since Sidekick started displaying the same problem on my home computer as it had on my work computer. The splash screen would start up and then nothing. So I stumbled on something by right-clicking with Task Manager where you could eventually get...
Kind of the same thing happened for me. As previously noted I never had a problem installing Sidekick--the main key to doing so is to NOT have it in the Programs folder but, instead, have everything in its own folder immediately under C:\. But I gave up actually getting the program to start...
Hey Skyline--I have been an ardent user of Sidekick going way back to version 2. I have always used it infrequently at work and mainly to track business contacts and make notes for conversations I have had. Over the last several years the company I work for has upgraded Windows and/or the...
The only somewhat similar annoyance I have bee putting up with is on my machine at work that is now running Win 7 64-bit. I started out with Sidekick 2 way back when with Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP and finally Win 7 32-bit. I think it was finally Win 7 when I had to abandon Sidekick 2 and go...
Perform was a great program for the time and pretty unique. My use of the program was not all that sophisticated. All I wanted to do was design some nice forms that I could use related to my work but I never used the more powerful Filler feature of the program. So I have about a half dozen...
Jim,
The thing is that there was a subsequent program (JetForm, FormFlow?) that could import the xxxx.FRP files generated by PerForm but I cannot find older versions of those programs. In fact I think FormFlow 2.22 had a feature specifically intended to import FRP files. I have not been able...
Hey Jim,
I think I tracked it down to something called Lync that runs at startup which enables instant communications among those in the company where I work. If I shut that down then SK98 usually starts. If that doesn't work then shutting down Outlook usually does the trick.

I figured that some of the diehards here who stick with Sidekick might also be sticking with other old software. The software in question is Delrina PerformPro which was a pretty slick form designer back in the day. As with my SKW2 PerformPro worked well until the latest computer upgrade at...
That is interesting news although it won't do me any good. I have gotten SK98 to work relatively well on the Win7-64 machine at work but I still somehow preferred the look and feel of SKW2 (and I still have occasional problems with opening SK98 which might have something to do with other...
This is an odd new phenomenon but par for the course with trying to get this program to continue to run stably under each iteration of Windows. I had gotten it to install and run in my Windows 7 64 machine at work without too many problems but lately it has been hanging on start-up. The...
Blaze--I agree with manually backing up the USERDATA folder in its entirety and it is always to a drive other than the main drive (external drive is probably the safest). I have always done this as my first line of defense but sometimes also relied on the backup from within Sidekick. By the...
The SKW2 backup function I had been using with SKW2 merely took the existing files you chose for backup and copied them into another location--nothing fancy. I suspect the SK98 backup function is similar but I suspect the problem is more to do with Windows 7 64-bit rather than Sidekick.
Jimalex--tried this sequence exactly as well as running the Backup/Restore directly via Packgo.exe without running SK98. Whatever I try I get the "Insufficient Disk Space. . . " dialogue popping up. Maybe it has something to do with Win 7 64-bit but the error is obviously ridiculous.

I agree--I never totally relied on the Backup procedure from SKW2 but it was handy and always worked. I routinely use a program that looks similar to FreeCommander which is called TotalCommander and before that was called WindowsCommander. It has been around forever and is by Ghisler (google...
I have stubbornly persisted to stick with Sidekick over the years, primarily Version 2 that was flawless and the best (in my opinion) but have recently had to make the switch to SideKick98 to be able to run on my Win 7 64-bit machine. One of the dumbest things I am not encountering is backing...
Thanks for the info. The key reason I have stuck with Sidekick is the Contact Log associated with each card where you can keep an running bunch of free-form notes about the contact (e.g., past conversations and communications with the contact). I have some that go back 10 or more years. As...
Hi Jim,
Funny thing that the moment I finished my last post I went back to the Alpha Four directory and tried again. The thing is I was using DosBox to run the A4.exe file and it was bombing there but I suddenly discovered the a4v8.exe file in the folder which is the actual Dos program...
