You basically describe a dual boot system,if I understood you.
No need for boot managers, setting partitions active.
XP will change the boot menu so you'll have two systems to chose from at boot up.
Later you can remove the old XP installation if you want to.
I did have similar problems before.
And reducing memory speed solved it.
Memory incompatibility can cause things you experienced.
Freezing however is usually the result of overheating or harddisk problems.
It does sound like a memory issue (the file copy phase at least).
What mobo do you have?
What kind of memory?
Try to run the memory at a more conservative setting.
I'm not saying that knowing the error code solves the problem, but in many cases can point you in the right direction.
If you see a report saying that "i get errors",it's pretty hard to help...
Or we could just put up a general message on the site:
If you have a problem check your...
If there's a BSOD,then there's a Stop error code as well!
I'm surprised that you guys are willing to speculate on the cause without knowing the exact problem...
I'd say that it's related to memory or overheating.
(Btw,when it comes to troubleshooting "blah blah some numbers and letters" isn't quite helpful, you know!
"Numbers and letters" many times actually mean something important...)
It means that the card needs more power than the AGP bus can supply.
So you have to connect it to the power supply with an available molex connector, just like your hard disk or CD-ROM.
Refer to to the manual!
The advice is to keep the memory and FSB at the same frequency for system stability.
But you can experiment with the settings carefully.
