Hi !
The SMTP server is probably "dead". Does any of the logs give any clue as to what is going wrong ?
One way (dirty one - so have a backup) is to remove the SMTP part of the windows server and the re-install it. BE VERY CARFULL, AND USE THIS AS A LAST RESORT ONLY! I DO NOT KNOW IF THE...

I would try to download and install veritas backupEXEC on the server. The BackupEXEC has a 60 days trial period.
If you still are unable to read the data, try the tape in another drive to eliminate that the tape is dead.

What you suggest is what i seek, but
The users have "two" mailboxes. The Company@company.com and user@company.com.
This is the setup they want. My problem is to seperate the two accounts, so that the mail that is sent from user@company.com ends up in user@company.com's sent...

I can configure the NT4 DNS with abc.com as a primary DNS even when my ISP has the authoritative DNS for abc.com.
My NT4 server is connectet to the internet, but behind a NAT and a firewall.
Will the event viewer not log an error simular to "the server...
You might be right about the DHCP server.
Could you let me know how the experiment worked out...
Does the internal DNS server forward requests to rootservers or does it use the standard rootservers ? \Lars
Hmm...
In my mind there can only be one primary DNS server for anny given domain (the authoritative server). Are you sure that it will not collide with the ISP.
the .local domain is used in W2K as a "nonroutet" domain, but does NT4 understand this. I guess someone would be rather mad...
