MacroScope your update query worked sort of. It turns out that some of the numbers are duplicate (mis keyed) or are missing so I did not get a clean sequential run. Is there anyway it could accept an entered value and then sequentally assign the values?

I would rather do a query but I don't always know the starting number. It may start with 1 or some other number based on a previous run. For example the first run may be 1...137 the second run may be 234...1896 etc.

I will go the programming route. I am changing the values in the 'value' field as they are blank and need a sequential number assigned based on their town.

Resolved the problem. Issue was Symantic Antivirus 10.2 See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/961654 removed Symantic and used Mircosoft Security Essentials and no problems.

I currently use Symantic AV 10. Also the server does not have a static IP which I will change. The strange thing is i set up a VM on the server running WinXP Pro and it never looses its connection. I am planning on replacing the switch to see if it is a switch issue.

What about creating an .rtf file I don't see why an application must be available to create it's file. ie in foxpro you can create a .XLS .WK1 .TXT file and they don'd have to be available. I would assume you could create a .DOC etc file as well?
