Problem:
Citrix users have to wait up to 30 seconds to close Office docs on File Server - whether changes were made or not - but only on one folder in the drive.
Background:
- P4-1.4 Compaq DL 380 running 2003 Server.
- Clients have Drives G: and H: mapped to two shared folders on the same...
There are many factors that come into play when considering backup speeds. The following are in no particular order:
- file size (many smaller files back up slower than a few large ones)
- Disk speeds (10K)
- SCSI drivers/firmware
- Disk fragmentation
- Switch/hub configuration/firmware (we just...
Thanks Tudor,
Your information is correct, but unfornutely not applicable to my situation. Since I am using a File System Device, I never have more than one sequence in my backups. All 50 media devices are folders on the same disk array. And there is enough room on the array for me to do two...
I am using Arcserve 2000, SP 4. My media is provided by File System Devices from a disk array. Periodically I will lose media from the pool, but it still shows up in the device manager. When I format or erase it, I am told that it is part of the save set - but the save set doesn't show it. Is...
Loading SP4 took care of some of the problems. Adding RAM helped also. I limited the amount of RAM that Exchange can use, so it's not eating all of the system's ram any longer. I am, however, still having performance issues that I believe are related to fragmentation. A call to Microsoft is next...
I am creating a rule that checks messages when they arrive based on key subject words. Then 'start application' runs a process (DOS Batch file) that creates/captures a log file (net view > myfile.txt). Then some VBA runs that attaches myfile.txt to a new email and sends that out automatically...
With a working backup tape and another server, you should be able to restore your data. You will however, not be able to do this on your 'production' lan. You will need to build another Exchange box on that lan to restore to. Then create a .pst file containing the data you need and move that...
Karston,
How much is 'a large amount' in reference to white space? The public has around 20 MB, and the private has 2800 MB.
As mentioned earlier, I just loaded SP4, but it made little difference in this case. I'll run perfwiz tomorrow AM and see what it suggests.
To clarify, CPU is running...
It all started a few weeks ago, and I'm not aware of any software or hardware changes, besides updates to the Trend software. Since their site had little info on this issue, I will call them and ask.
The C: drive has 1.43GB free.
Thanks Zoey,
Private: 12.5GB, Public: 3GB
Store.exe is using 893MB as of this writing.
I will check with Trend.
Paging file is set to 1GB on Drive C:
Cache hit is showing 100%
Queries/second < 15

We have Exchange 5.5 on a dual P4 1.2GHz w/ 1GB ram running NT4, SP6a. After a reboot, the Exchange Information Store uses around 35mb of memory. Within 5 hours, it will climb to almost all of the 1GB. I loaded Exchange SP4 but that did not help.
In addition, the Internet Mail Service take up...
When I attempt to install the SQL agent, I get an error telling me that SQL is not installed on the box - but it is installed, and running. I am attempting to install the agent from my Arcserve 2000 CD. Is there a newer agent available? If so, I am unable to find it.
Thanks!
Scott
I am weighing the difference between running raid 5 on a Dell PowerVault array with 14 14GB drives, and running it without raid. I need to know how much storage space I will lose if I configure it with Raid 5.
Thanks!
Poor performance can be attributed to several things:
- File Size: More tiny files back up slower than the same amount of data made up of fewer large files
- Drive speed
- Fragmentation: Heavily fragmented drives back up SLOW
- mismatch between switch and NIC speed/duplex setting
-...
OK. New information. I learned that I can't copy the i386 folder to the hard drive when creating the DR Boot CD. That is where the "Insert Service Pack 1 CD into Drive A:" error came from. If I put the Win2k cd into the CD drive and press enter there, the setup would continue until...
Fritz,
Fortunately this was a test. I am trying DR using a freshly loaded server (complete with the client agent w/SP4). I am running the Disk based backup (as opposed to tape). I will do as you suggested and go from there.
My confidence, however, is not inspired by the DR product. I was able...
I'm using AS2K, SP4 with DRO SP4. When I try to do a DR from CD, it asks me to insert SP1 Disk 3 CD into A:. Even when I cut the CD down to fit into the floppy drive it wouldn't work (just kidding). It offers me no options but retry or quit.
I burned the CD using Nero, and created from the...
I have an Outlook form that needs to open either as an .oft file or as a Published Form in the Organizational Forms Library *from outside of Outlook*. To make it even more interesting I need to be able to pass parameters (Email Subject) to the form.
Thanks in advance!
