I am using Arcserve 2000, SP 4. My media is provided by File System Devices from a disk array. Periodically I will lose media from the pool, but it still shows up in the device manager. When I format or erase it, I am told that it is part of the save set - but the save set doesn't show it. Is there a fix for this, or do I have to baby-sit the media pool? This happens once or twice a month.

I have 5 pools (one for each of the 5 backups that run each night) with 10 media in each. Retention time is set to 5 days, with 9 media required in the save set. All will work fine for awhile, then I get a failed job because it couldn't find media. There seems to be no pattern.

Thanks!

Make sure you are not erasing Seq 2 or higher tapes. Media Pool view will show the logical media names and not the individual sequences. For example media A seq 1 and A seq 2 will both show in the device manager but only media A will show in your media pool. If you try to erase Seq 2, you will get that warning message

Thanks Tudor,

Your information is correct, but unfornutely not applicable to my situation. Since I am using a File System Device, I never have more than one sequence in my backups. All 50 media devices are folders on the same disk array. And there is enough room on the array for me to do two weeks worth of backups.
