On our server we have a directory for shop orders under that dir we have a folder for each job such as SO 187 that includes sub folders such as customer info, drafting and drawing list. Each of these sub folders will have different permissions. Under the shop orders directory I would like to...
I work at an engineering company and have been asked to make a template containing folders and permissions that can be copied into place for each new job we have. This template would contain a folder with many sub folders that are rights restricted by groups and my boss would like for this task...
Thats the way I do my network printers they are all local on the server with an custom TCP/IP port. Then you just share them to your users.
MetsFan I am not 100% on this I would have to just try it and see but I think you can do it for each users in the user properties or you could set it up...
I think it would be a script like this
net use lpt1 \\printerserver\printer share name
Then you can setup your AD to run that on the machine on boot up or I guess you could set it up to load when the user logs on.
I would reinstall the protocals. TCP/IP ect.. Might not fix it but its an easy step to take and besides it might work. I say this cause of a problem I encountered on a win2k machine what was slow on the network and after reinstalling tcp/ip protocal it was fine.
Game over is what you might say after running this VPN over DSL. Our company has a DSL line that runs 1.5/128 I have VPN setup for users to come in remotely and it is slow. I guess the 128 out with the encryption is just to much. I am not going to say it wont work but if its like my...
Nope. You can only mangage a server with terminal service. XP Pro has a built in remote desktop feature you can use. But win 2k does not. On my network I use VNC since its free and all. I have another add on for it that will find and list all my VNC client computers on the network so I...
Ok wow dont I feel stupid now. That was just to easy All I had to do was creat a new zone called mywebsite.com then I created a host under its properties under "use parent if left blank" I added WWW and guess what all is wroking now.
Ok I think I am on the right track I have created a new zone and it allows me to ping my internal site by typing ping mywebsite.com But now how do I setup the new zone to recoganize www.mywebsite.com in a browser on my local lan. It currently comes up with just http://mywebsite.com...
Nothing strage that I noticed with nslookup. I think my problem comes from my router will not let me reach my public IPs from my lan. Even if I make a hole to use PC anywhere and forward a public ip in the router to a pc anywhere host it will not access the pc from the public IP from my lan...
I am setup on Windows 2000 with AD. With one of my servers I am hosting my website. From outside our LAN you can reach the public domain name www.mywebsite.com but from inside I have to use the local IP address. We are using a
Cayman router with DSL and 5 static IPs. So the router forwards...
If you can I would go with active directory. This will make assigning rights much eaiser and in the future you might have the need to apply some group polices for secutiry reasons. I noticed in one of the post exchange was mentioned run that on a differnt machine than what you plan to host...
OK since I need to figure this out too, what if we go with a group policy? And lock down some of the controls that way. Cause you can lock down the desk top and disable the drives or go as far as to prevent them from broswing ect.... But the A cad will still be able to access the...
Our network is Win2000 and XP pro and we use active directory. On the guys in drafting that use Autocad I have made a group called Drafting and added drafting to the local machines as a power user. Making them a power user is the only way I have found to get around the Reg error that occours...
If you have a stand alone win 2000 machine then you can just log on as the administrator and under users reset the password. If you have AD then you can reset it from the Domain controler.
I thought the Runas command just prompted you for the password when needed?
runas /profile /user:mymachine\administrator cmd
then the passwould would be asked for after trying to run the command.
I just took a look at my Warcraft CD and I dont think you can play it across the net without using B net. On a lan you can but it uses IPX. I dont think playing over a VPN would work since your VPN uses TCP/IP I dont think IPX will route over your TCP/IP VPN.
Ahh .. cool thats what got me into networking was gameing and trying to setup a network to play Warcraft with my roommate. What game are you trying to setup? Most new multiplayer games have the abilty to play over the internet using TCP/IP.
I dont think its built into XP. You can prob make a connection to it but you will not be able to use it as a gateway to your LAN. If you just need to connect to send files you can use the built in remote desktop option.
