I am setup on Windows 2000 with AD. With one of my servers I am hosting my website. From outside our LAN you can reach the public domain name but from inside I have to use the local IP address. We are using a
Cayman router with DSL and 5 static IPs. So the router forwards my public IP to the private IP of the webserver. So since my private and public domain names are different how do I setup the DNS on my local lan to point to my website. If I add a new host in the forward it will put mypublicdomain.privatedomain.com So would I need to make a new zone?

Thanks for your help

What does nslookup tell you. Also route print and ipconfig /all. Anything strange? Glen A. Johnson

Nothing strage that I noticed with nslookup. I think my problem comes from my router will not let me reach my public IPs from my lan. Even if I make a hole to use PC anywhere and forward a public ip in the router to a pc anywhere host it will not access the pc from the public IP from my lan. For the most part my DNS is working I just need to tell it where to find my public domain on my local lan.

I am having a nearly exact problem on one of my clients' networks. Does this same thing although their site is stored on a server that according to the webmaster is getting bogus DNS requests, and that it's hitting the threshhold then blocking the IP. The only difference is the location of the webserver, but the correlation comes from the fact that I'm using a Cayman router with DSL at this location as well, with Business DSL service. Maybe there's something with the Cayman router that's causing this.

Well, that's my 2¢ worth.

Ok I think I am on the right track I have created a new zone and it allows me to ping my internal site by typing ping mywebsite.com But now how do I setup the new zone to recoganize in a browser on my local lan. It currently comes up with just
Thanks for the help

Ok wow dont I feel stupid now. That was just to easy All I had to do was creat a new zone called mywebsite.com then I created a host under its properties under "use parent if left blank" I added guess what all is wroking now.

Shender944, if that's stupid, I hope someday to go brain dead. I never would have thought to look there. Way to go.
