Can't see new NT4 user from 98SE machines

I have been trying to get that in place forever. It seems there is never enough money for the project, but plenty for whatever project tickles the executives' fancies. I guess I just need to learn how to be a better tickler!!!!

Can't see new NT4 user from 98SE machines

I resolved the problem! Changing my password and not having it recognized was very puzzling. This got me and one of my techs to thinking and experimenting on a test network. We have Exchange running on on the PDC (not by MY choice.) Apperently, Exchange was caching the passwords somehow and...

Can't see new NT4 user from 98SE machines

Thanks for the info browolf. I really appreciate your assistance. Unfortunately, the results did not improve. I remembered as well that in the LMHOSTS file there has to be exactly 20 spaces between the quotes in the '01xb' line i.e., 172.16.33.1 "EURDBUENG1 \0x1b" I...

Can't see new NT4 user from 98SE machines

At first I simply renames my PWL. I have subsequently deleted ALL PWL files on the machine and did a cold restart. Still nothing. Earlier in the day I rebooted the PDC as well; ya know, just for kicks!

Can't see new NT4 user from 98SE machines

No. I tried changing my password as well at the server. I now get a 'password incorrect or access to server denied' message on 98 machines. Strangely enough, the OLD password works for authentication. Again, all is well with Win2k and XP (with password change.) I tried deleting the .plw...

Can't see new NT4 user from 98SE machines

I have created a new user "testuser" on our NT4 network. For some reason when I try to log into the network from any client running Win98 I get "cannot find user". NT4 WS thru XP are fine. Any other username will log in as intended. Any ideas as to why this would happen...

NT4 Boot W/ Blinking Cursor Only

Not having luck with Ghost or PowerQuest. Ghost keeps giving me a write secto error. PowerQuest is going so far- I don't think though that it should take 12 hours (time remaining) to image a 3 gig drive. Both programs are being run from boot disks and have worked with NT drives in the past...

NT4 Boot W/ Blinking Cursor Only

I have done the following: 1. A scandisk. 2. Performed a virus scan on the drive with Symantecs most recent definitions (turned up nothing.) 3. Reset BIOS with no positive results. 4. Renamed ntldr and ntdetect on HD & replaced with copies from floppy disk. 5. Screamed in...

NT4 Boot W/ Blinking Cursor Only

Thank you for the great suggestions. The boot disk did not work. NT give me a hardware error after selecting the boot mode in boot.ini. I think that was because of a HAL issue. The machine I created the disk from is virtually identical, but was built using the single processor mode. I did...

    Windows 2000 Pro Shutdown

You may want to check the advanced tab of the power settings in the control panel. You must check the "enable apm properties" box for the auto shutdown to take effect.

NT4 Boot W/ Blinking Cursor Only

Have a dual processor NT4 server that only shows a blinking curosor in upper RH corner during normal boot. Using rescue disk results in endless system scan. MS site suggests virus, but scanned as slave with VS software getting no hits. All files are present on disk. Tried fixing MBR with no...

How to setup virtual exchange orgs

I am doing the same thing now. Simply add/edit the SMTP address you want in the desired recipient's mailbox (properties->email addresses tab)to reflect the company the user belongs to. Make sure that address is designated as the "reply address" if there are multiple SMTP addresses...

Anybody having problem getting the "wheel" to work with win2k?

I don't have a laptop situation, but I found this and many other helpful fixes at

http://www.tek-tips.com

///////
If you have a PS/2 Wheel Mouse without special driver (IntelliPoint or 3rd party), and the wheel is not...

    Networking Problem

You say that you are an administrator. However, are you an administrator LOCALLY, or are you an administrator on the domain the machine joined? I've found that win2k is more picky about who gets to/sees what. Try going to control panel -&gt...

Lost ATX auto power off feature on 98SE

I replaced the motherboard and now everything works fine. I also booted the new board initially into SAFE MODE and deleted all the registered devices (ALL) and let windows rediscover everything. I don't know which helped more. My question is, if the motherboard...

Lost ATX auto power off feature on 98SE

I recently installed the "patch" fixing shutdown issues on my 98SE installation. Since then my shutdows are successful (so far) but now get the "It is now safe" screen upon successful shutdown instead of powering off automotically.

I know that in NT there is...
