Yes, you can upgrade to HIS 2000 from SNA 4.0. You should not have to upgrade to the HIS 2000 Client. I did not upgrade our clients yet and upgraded our SNA 4.0 servers to HIS over 4 months ago. Eventually you will want to upgrade the clients just because Microsoft no longer supports the SNA 4.0...
We use the Infoconnect Attachmate product and with a recent version we ran into a similar problem where the application was installed in each user profile directory instead of the root directory that it was previously install in with the prior version.
you will probably have to ensure that the...
I would consider asking your company if they would invest in Self Test Software or Test King (both available online) as well as study materials. I used a combination of study materials including Microsoft. I also built a server at home which was helpful for those features that I cannot do on the...
What TN3270 client will you be using? We have done most of our development with the Host Front application from Farabi. They provide tools for developing a web enabled front end. The problems we encountered had to do with how we had the pools set up and load balancing across multiple HIS...
I have been supporting computer applications for over 25 years in the IT industry. I can recall a time when we had nightmares with all these different word processors, spreadsheets, graphics programs, etc... and they were all by different companies and incompatible with each other. We also had...
Dathai,
I am really interest in finding out how your SNA4 consolidation project went. Did you get all the NT4 SNA4 domains moved to one domain and moved to HIS on W3k?
I am getting ready to do this now and was looking for lessons learned.
Does anyone have experience with using the TN3270 Service with LUA Pools. We have a problem where sessions seem to go away. A user connects and then the client application indicates the sesion is disconnected. It also seems on the HIS Server that the session is disconnected but the session...
Are you using Microsoft SNA Server now?
Microsoft is releasing HIS (Host Integration Server) 2004. This product will support something called IP/DLC which will allow you to communicate via IP to the Host.
Please reply if you need more information. This product is in Beta right now I think.
Cool, glad that worked. Are you planning to upgrade your SNA servers to Host Integration Server? I am working on a project to do this and am looking for information on how others are doing this.
If you look at the help screen for the connection properties page it will describe the definition of these fields.
Off the top of my head. You enter the connection name. The other fields I let default to the value displayed with the exception of the remote node id this must match the defintion...
You can do this and I know there is a queue article out there on this. There are several ways to do this.
I have always done this another way. I build the new SNA Server with W2K Server and a different server name. When you load SNA Server on and make it a backup member of the SNA domain that...
I believe you have to use the associate printer LU function. I am not in front of a server so I am not sure exactly what the process. Basically you associate the printer LUA to the Terminal LUA on the Terminal LUA setting. When the TN client gets the terminal session is also gets the associated...
Thanks, I was able to combine two sna.cfg config files but had to write a small program to strip out two lines that were not being accepted for the import to the new SNA.cfg file. I am also trying to figure out how to not only combine the config files but also to rename the server names in the...
We have several SNA domains each with its own com.cfg file.
Does anyone have experience with combining multiple domains. I am working on this and have had some success but also have run into some issues. Looking for advice.
Does anyone have experience with upgrading SNA 4.0 to HIS in a print intensive environment. We upgraded our SNA server from NT to Windows 2000 and used a tool (printmig31) to migrate the print queues. This converted the printer ports from LPR to TCPIP fine. The print queues show NT or 2000...
Since Host Integration Server runs under 2003 then I would be suprised if there is not a way to run DLC. In the case of HIS, I needed to load the HIS Service Pack (1) in order to get DLC installed for it. Not sure if you are using this application or not.
Yes this is easy. Build the new SNA server as a backup server in the same SNA domain. Add you link service on the new server. Now you can drag and drop the connection (PU) with all the (LUs) from the SNA Server Service on the production server to and drop it onto the SNA Server Service on the...
I set up one of our HIS servers to be a TN3270 server. The sessions on the host are not TN but by defining the LU(s) at LUA then assigning them to the TN3270 service you can make the HIS server become the TN3270 server. This way the clients can use any TN3270 client and do not require the SNA...
