Using XP-Pro/Extra! Bundle for TCP/IP: After installing on Domain Users PC, user cannot access application ~ receives error: "Cannot find the security file. See your administrator for further instructions." Domain Users placed in Local Administrators group CAN access application. Need alternative solution to provide access without adding users to Local Admin group. Please help!

We use the Infoconnect Attachmate product and with a recent version we ran into a similar problem where the application was installed in each user profile directory instead of the root directory that it was previously install in with the prior version.

you will probably have to ensure that the users have access to each profile folder where these setting are being configured. This is just a hypothesis.

When you install Attachmate make sure you select MY Documents (default) for the users files. Once you have it installed to that location run regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ software and delete the entire Attachment key. After you delete the registry key reopen Attachmate and it should work fine. It will recreate the key when you launch the program. MAKE SURE YOU DELETE THE KEY IN HKEY_CURRENT_USER NOT IN LOCAL_MACHINE!

I was getting the same problem with the security file in extra! 6.7 -- i think this is inherent of a mixed xp/nt4 environment with this issue.

i deleted HKCU/software/attachmate, and now i don't get this error, which is nice.. but just get the splash screen and then extra! exits.

anyone follow this up for us?

regarding Corcoran's problem, this may be fixed by browsing for the session file - C:\Program Files\Attachmate\E!E2K\Sessions\session1.edp and replacing it with one from either your installation share, or from another working pc.

Then, when you start Extra again, you may need to select the correct printer. I have found it to be most stable to select the correct printer but to UNCHECK the Use Default Printer option. Voodoo... but it works.
