    poweredge 6350, 80-pin, but I have 68 pin drives, can't find adapter..

I recently purchased a Dell PowerEdge 6350 on craigslist without any drives, I currently have 4 68-pin SCSI drives and was searching for an adapter (6350 has the 80-pin connectors). I am able to find tons of 80-pin --> 68-pin but nothing the other way around, am I screwed? is there no way for...

recursive cp that preserves symbolic links

I used to visit bsdforums.org back in the day quite a bit but the site seems to be down at the moment... They always had a really good support base but maybe forums.freebsd.org are taking over?

    Linux e-mail server setup

VMware does not have OS's preinstalled but they do have pre-packaged OS's available, they call them 'Virtual Appliances' right on the front page of vmware.com ESX and ESXi do have a very small footprint indeed

    Linux e-mail server setup

When setting up the VM you have choices of hardware and the for the NIC you can choose to either have it NAT, Bridge, or Host (this based on the actual hardware that you have running on). NAT will do what it says, but how I have them set up is by Bridge mode, that way they can have its own IP...

    Linux e-mail server setup

ESX and ESXi are embedded, where VMware Server runs on top of an existing OS. What my thinking was when setting this up was, what can I do free, yet still rock solid. I haven't been spammed or anything from VMWare (that I know of). I find the best way to understand VMware is to actually use it...

    Linux e-mail server setup

Yes it is mixed, I have Ubuntu Server 8.04 running VMware Server, sshd, ntpd and samba. The 4 VM's that I have are FreeBSD, Server 2003, Debian stable, and Ubuntu Server (for testing mostly, in fact it is almost never on). Everything has been running for quite some time, the only issue I had was...

    Linux e-mail server setup

Is this one of those qnap or readynas type products? Do you know the specs of this system and what kind of load it can handle? It sounds to me that it may be in the companies best interest to hire a Linux guy for a month contract or longer if you plan on sticking with the Linux/Unix systems...

    bulid new server

FYI, CentOS can be used instead of RHEL. CentOS is RHEL with the propriotary stuff stripped out, its the same distro with slightly different looks, but all the files will be in the same place so the documentation linked above with centos.org cd's will be a great DNS/DHCP server. Ubuntu is...

    Someone used my paypal account

Well I know when this came out at first there was an issue that ebay stopped working with it, but it is easy to disable the dongle, they just send you an email and have you go through some hoops and such, its not like they are going to disable your account because you lost/damaged the dongle...

    Someone used my paypal account

I have a key-phob (spelling? fob?) for my paypal account, it was only $5 directly from paypal and works with openID and something else that I can't remember at this moment, maybe it would be a good idea to look into that

linux newbies, which free version to go?

I think trying the latest Ubuntu, OpenSuse, or Fedora is a great starting point, download each and boot from CD and see which you like, blank CD's/DVD's are cheap. After you start getting under the skin of the distro you will find which works for you best good luck

which linux distribution is good for a dedicated server

I use Ubuntu Server 8.04 LTS and really like it, I have really come to like Ubuntu LTS (6.06 and 8.04) but I also am more comfy with Debian. I have VMWare Server 2.0 running on it and it is just rock solid. I have FreeBSD 7.1, Server 2003, and Debian Sarge running in VM. At work I use RedHat and...

    2501 with 2 serial interfaces DCE/DTE question

I have a 2501 router that has 2 serial interfaces that are connected to 2 2600 series routers. My question; is it possible to set the clock rate on both interfaces or am I only able to set it to the one interface, with the other interface acting as the DTE for the other router....I hope to show...
