your system will work with the speed of slower RAM. in ur case i think u shd just use the 1gb ram as its the fastest among the 3 if 1gb is enough for u.

I dont think its a good idea to use transparency meant for inkjet with a laser printer.
I have heard about Multipurpose transparencies that can be used with inkjet and laser.

Well, I have worked in an IC Fabrication lab where we were trained to handle different chemicals.
And we were told specifically not to treat DI water as ur normal tap water. It is harmful to skin. As it lacks ions, it will absorb ions from your skin.

Well, once you partition your drive. You cannot keep re-sizing the partitions at your will. Its a tedious job.
If you want to install multiple OS, then partitioning is a must (atleast i do it that way) to install 1 OS per partition.
Keeping a seperate partition for OS as suggested wont harm...
Just replacing the fan will be anytime cheaper. You can just clean the Heat sink (base), I generally just replace the fan which I get at local market.

Warning: As far as I know, DI water is not to be used with bare hands. It will harm your skin, so beware of that.
Besides, using normal tap water will solve your problem. Once you recover your data, trash the drive and get new one as the old one might ditch u anytime.
