for an inkjet printer and those for a laser printer?

For a technique we are using in metals class –transferring a design to metal for etching, it calls for using a laser printer, because the ink from the inkjet won’t be permanent in the chemical solution and evidently that from the laser printer is

I have tons of inkjet transparencies here, but no laser ones

I have the pattern/design scanned into my computer and can print it, but wonder if I can use my inkjet transparencies in your laser printer to do it???

What do you think?

An inkjet transparency is likely to melt in a hot laser printer.

Use those specifically designed for laser printers.

I dont think its a good idea to use transparency meant for inkjet with a laser printer.

I have heard about Multipurpose transparencies that can be used with inkjet and laser.

Yes - I have tried an inkjet transparency in a laser printer (accidently). Welded itself to the drum thing. I managed to fix it without new bits but it was not a good experience.

And laser transparencies don't have the necessary coating to work well with inkjets. I did try once in desperation and with a small amount of print but it wasa not succesfull.

Laser Printers = hot fuse onto smooth surface
Inkjet = cold liquid spray on to rough surface (and may also need an opaque header strip to be detected in the hopper.)

Don't mix them, as Gavona found out! Messy.

I'd also be suspicious of multi-purpose - use the purpose designed for best results.
