Hi

I'll start by saying I have absolutely no experience of Dreamweaver! I'm a unix techie on AIX/HP/Solaris.

Anyway, I've had a call from my uncle who is having problems with this app. Apparently his online shop uses this, and he had a deal with a guy who would update the site with new content (mainly pictures and prices) on a weekly basis. Unfortunately the guy is no longer with us and my uncle has no idea how it works. Due to the unexpected he has no documentation etc of what was done.

Well, he thought that me being 'into computers' (why is it that as soon as someone knows you are in the IT field they think you're an expert on PC's and their apps?) would be useful.

Bottom line is that he knows he should be ftp'ing content to his site but he doesn't know how. I do know ftp.

Who can give me the basics of what I need here and maybe some pointers to initial starter docs? I'm presuming at the very least I'll need a username, password, IP etc etc for the ftp alone.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the wonderful world of web development.

Your uncle's hosting provider should be able to provide him with the passwords for the site. You don't neccessarily need to know the IP; most ftp applications (including Dreamweaver) can connect via the domain name when provided with the proper passwords. (There are many free ftp applications available on the web.) You can even connect via Windows Explorer and use drag and drop to move your files.

I recommend searching for some basic Dreamweaver tutorials (there are many at the Adobe site among other places) and posting back if you have specific questions.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the help.

I managed to get id's for the site, and using these have ftp uploaded the new jpegs into the images folder. Not too happy about simple ftp but hey, thats the way it is.

Now I just have to figure out which file(s) to edit so that the gallery tab on the main homepage actually shows the images....
