on your FE server, try to enable the forms based authentication on the SMTP virtual server .... you will have to configure SSL ....
Also stop and restart the IIS service ...

Is it a single modem or a Modem/Router ?
As Noveyron wrote, you may need to remotely connect to you Modem and enable the Nat feature. By Doing so, your modem will turn into a Nat/Router and will assign automatically IP adresses to all your machine.

Assuming that you have AD and DNS working properly.

You need to set an alias for the 4690 IP Polycom to work. The supported set type for the 4690 IP Polycom is 4620.

In order to find out if this is a name resolution issue, try to access to OWA by using your Public IP :
http://xx.xx.xx.xx\exchange or
https://xx.xx.xx.xx\exchange if you installed a certificate
also, open port 443 and 80 as well ....to see if it's not a Firewall ... OWA relies on IIS...
