One other problem with printer.
I am getting a header page that prints at the beginning of every job. I can't figure out where it's coming from.
In admintool I turned it off. I printcap I have :sh:sf
I got it working, I think it was two things. The device name, I changed it from lp1 to lp in the printcap file.
Also the HP 932c driver will not work on the win machine over the network.
I changed it to a 870Cse and it works good.
Then I changed the device name to lp388, my printers name in...
I have a user that when I logon to it mwm starts and application software starts.( It is required to be this way for the application to work, I think)
It has only one desktop and no apparent way to change it. The is no panel, just a console.
How can I try to setup more desktops?
What is the solaris 2.5 equiv of redhats rc.local?
Startup script that I can use to start things on boot.
whats the proper way to set the domainname and make it permanent?

I have a sparc5 and just installed samba.
I have a win98 box which can open the sparc in network neighborhood, I have access to the shared folders, one read, one read/write.
I can see a shared printer. I can install it as network printer and print to it.
Nothing prints. Traffic is going...

# mount /dev/rfd0c

# mount

# umount /dev/fd
#newfs /dev/fd
newfs: not a raw disk device
Also no mdec or kvm folders
and no bootfd file.

I can ping to and from both machines.
I ran admintool and setup remote printer.
I added the win98 machine to the list of hosts using it's computer name and it's ip address.
I can ping it by it's name.
I put it's name in for the printers host computer name, and the share name I used for the...

Is it possible to create a boot floppy on my linux machine that will support ufs, etc?
I have rh 7.1 with the 2.4 kernel.

I am new to Solaris so this may be wrong.
If you are connected to the internet or a public lan, you want to use ssh.
You can get a free windows version called igaly ssh on the internet.
Then you can tunnel the vnc traffic thru it, see the vnc website for details.
It is safe for root login...

I am very new to solaris,
I am needing to access a shared printer on a windows machine.
My local printer port is called lp388.
I am able to ping over network.
Another option would be to share the printer from my sparc 5 solaris, but I would like to do it the other way.

I booted the install cdrom and reinstalled the software, I did not need anything on the disk anyway.
Very limited disk space.
