I have an Ultra-10 running Solaris 2.6 with CDE & OpenWin installed. I normally just use the standard windows telnet program to work on this box from my PC, as I can only run CDE from the console and the server is in another room.

Is there any software available for NT4 which will allow me to "emulate" running CDE/OpenWin on my PC desktop?

Greg.

Hi Greg,
There's a Reflection-X software which u can install on Windows NT and open up X-terminal window. This is a GUI based session and u can run all u'r GUI applications.
I hope this is helpful to u.

You could try VNC, it's free and easy to find on the web.
I don't think you will actually get CDE onto your PC, but it will give you an X-Window.

We use Hummingbird Exceed, which works really well.
There is a freebee called "tera term" which also works.

Thanks all, I'll check them out.

Greg.

I am new to Solaris so this may be wrong.

If you are connected to the internet or a public lan, you want to use ssh.

You can get a free windows version called igaly ssh on the internet.

Then you can tunnel the vnc traffic thru it, see the vnc website for details.

It is safe for root login too.

I have only been doing this with linux.

Should it be the same?

What cipher should work with Solaris?
