this setup used to work. just like your buddy, we disconnected the 98 machine for a while, let it sit for about 3 months. at the mean time we hooked up an xp machine (xp to xp). now that we re-connected the 98 machine back up, it's acting strange. anybody have any suggestions?

i have a 98se machine and an xp-pro machine connected via crossover cable. file sharing is enabled on both. xp can ping 98 and vice versa by name and ip address. 98 can access all files, folders, and drives in the xp machine - no problem. xp's drives are mapped as x and y on 98.

every time xp loads (or attempts to load), hardware profile which is in wpa.dbl is checked against what is on the machine. they include, display adapter, hdd id string, nic mac address, ram, cpu serial number, cd hardware id string, system volume id string, scsi host atapter hardwar id string...
that's just a "boot disk". i don't think it has any proprietary information about windows. you can find a 98 cd anywhere. i have been able to install upgrade as a full version, even though i had 98se, but i can't discuss it here. it's doable.
i'm not sure. the desktop pc runs win-xp-sp2. if outlook didn't come with it, i don't think it's available there. but outlook express is on the desktop pc and outlook is on the laptop. one more question: if i can get outlook express installed on the laptop, and import the emails from outlook...
windows batch doesn't support "OR".

ok, outlook epxress (where i'm trying to get the messages into), is on a decktop pc. outlook is on a laptop and they're conncected together in a lan. so, when i open outlook express on the desktop pc, do i tell it "where" to import the messages from outlook? or what? it's kind of a...

i think these postings are helping me. i was able to successfully import her .pst files into outlook. and i can see all the email messages to be ok. what now? do i export the emails from out look into a file and then into outlook express? or do i tell outlook express to go "into"...
i should be a little clearer:
ritht click on "my computer" (not mine, yours) lol
select "map network drive"
enter the drive you want to map
check the box "reconnect at logon"

she was using outlook express 6.0 and messages are in outlook.pst file. if she imports the .pst file (containing messages) into outlook, can she then export them from outlook into outlook express?
