hi
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the best data type in progress for a field that is part of the primary key which might quickly reach 2 billion records.
My table as follows
note_id (int), seq(int), text[4](char[80])
the primary key is note_id + seq. I will mostly be...
hello all
I am impementing some changes in our policies.
I read a thread few months ago that mentioned a command which could tell what backups will run in a particular window.(for example, 13/6/06 9:00:00 - 15/6/06 9:00:00) Unfortuantely I cannot find that thread, And that command could really...
hey comtec
Perhaps I was incorrect(or not very clear) or maybe I am misunderstanding your reponse.
Our veritas netbackup 4.5 license allows us to take backups from 5 clients only. We have 5 servers (A,B,C,D,E) our current cofiguration is
Media/master server : A
Clients : A, B, C, D...
hello all
For testing purposes, is it possible to remove clients from the policy settings without loosing the backups that had been taken. I found a website that said the backups are only removed after their retention period, regardless of whether the client exists or not. I want to be sure...
I have also faced this problem before, I worked around it in the following manner
I usually do complete backups every SATURDAY. For my monthly backups I have specified the first of every month(regardless of the day). In the rest of the schedules(belonging to the same policy) including the one...
Hi
Just have a few things I wished to verify and get some idea about.
1. I read through some previous postings on compression in netbackup. the tape perform internal hardware compression. Would it be possible to gain more disk space using software compression? I am not concerned about network...
I did as GreyWanderer suggested, deleted the drive, and added it again. Though it had not worked before, it worked like a charm today.
Anybody have any idea why this was happening?
Comtech, sorry I did not get a dchance to try robtest
I had tried that also !
I tried rebooting stoping and restarting the media manager daemons many times. but it did not do anything.
rebooted the system, but still the same problem/
then finally took out all the tapes, and manually pressed the power switch and turned it back on. but still...
hello all
I have run into this scenario and I cannot get my drive status to go from DOWN to UP.
I took the following actions.
I checked the media logs, and realized that one of the full backups supposed to run on saturday were not completed. from that point onwards there were around 15...
Hello all
Could some one advise me on the best possible steps to take in the following scenario??
Server : solaris 8 Veritas NB 4.5
Client: win server 2003 veritas NB 4.5
I created a test file and wanted to check if the backups and restores could be performed properly. I noticed that when I...
Hi all
Comtech,
I can consider your scenrio, however I have a slight problem with it. Let me assume that the freq is determined from the moment the backup is completed. and for the sake of argument let me assume that the backup completed on sun 14;00(ie 2pm)
so the next time the backup will...
hi Calz
it has been my experience that once you use a tape for catalog backups, you cannot reuse it for regular backups UNLESS you use the bplabel command manually.
i am sure that with the bplabel command you will overwrite the catalog header that is placed on the tapes.
Also if you wish to...
Hi comtec17
I cannt post a screenshot, however I can provide all the details.

- (Full Bacckup on monthly...
hello all
I had made some changes to the backup schedules before leaving for a month long vacation. I had scheduled, cumulative incremental backups to occur daily (ret. period : 2 weeks) , and a full backup to occur every saturday (ret. period: 6 weeks), a monthly backup(on the first of every...

I just made a copy of the original and placed it in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin using the copy command

hello all
As a daily practice, I check the veritas netbackup reports to see whether the backups had been processed smoothly. Today, after making note that everything was fine, I closed the veritas netbackup 4.5 administrative console.
Unfortunately after closing the adm. console, I pressed...
