Well, now I have news. With an HP Pavillion, the installation went smoothly in about half an hour or a little more. Cheers BlueWin Technical User

Setup will complete in 37 minutes

What with hyperthread CPU stuff? S-ATA hard drive? Naturally there are so many different possible configurations, it's hard to tell what particular component would make this trouble. In my case I had a blue screen in while the installation was still in course (at the last stages actually when...

Installing WS2003 at home for SharePoint

I am installing Windows Server 2003 at home to experiment with SharePoint Services, which I will install afterwards. This is my first time with Windows Server 2003 and I need recommendations regarding the configuration, as there are a number of different options. I just need to run SharePoint...

Thank you Achuchman. Indeed that is scary. 16 Hours? By the way, my new system has S-ATA hard drive. Is that OK? BlueWin Technical User

I am installing Windows Server 2003. It's been more than two hours that it says: Setup will complete in approximately: 37 minutes. Things are changing on the screen and the mouse cn move, but it is still into Windows installation with this message. How long should I still wait? Should I reboot...

    Why Linux is Cheap

It's funny to emphasize that Linux was before Windows. OK, I admit I thought Unix was before Windows but Linux was in a way the PC version of Unix. At least it started to show its head after Windows became the standard for millions of people. But if Linux was before Windows it's even a worse...

Thrakazog That's right! I saw that in one of their books while I was in the bookshop, but then forgot it. Many thanks for this reminder. It's probably the best I could have. BlueWin Technical User

from VB .Net to VB 2005

Thank you for your answer. I hate buying books without paging through them first. As I said, I live in a non English country and books in English are not easy to find. But anyway, if there is VB 2005 in the near future, I am willing to prepare for it. I saw in the VB 2005 book I purchased...

from VB .Net to VB 2005

Few days ago I have purchased Visual Basic .Net from a shop nearby. The manual that was with it was not of much use, so I started hunting for a good book. Unfortunately, I live in a country where English is a foreign language, so the only book I could buy was Visual Basic 2005 which I did not...

Which Windows 2003 Server to buy for SharePoint Single User

If I understood correctly, it is cheaper to buy the standard edition WS2003 than web + full sql. Next question, if I may, is: Do I have to replace WinXP with Win Server 2003? Will all my graphical and multimedia apps work with Windows Server 2003 just like they are currently working under XP Pro?

Which Windows 2003 Server to buy for SharePoint Single User

Looks like the cheapest is Web edition (Standard is over 1000), but I would need SQL server, I guess. I am a technical documentation consultant, currently working on SharePoint Services for a client. Since I am new to SharePoint, I would like to have SharePoint Services and InfoPath at home...

Want Announcements to appear only in one site

I have a site and there is an announcement in it (which is out of date anyway). I have created another site and added anouncements webpart but it shows the announcement from the other site. Can I restrict an announcement to within a site or a workspace? If yes, how? Same question applies to...
