Few days ago I have purchased Visual Basic .Net from a shop nearby.
The manual that was with it was not of much use, so I started hunting for a good book.
Unfortunately, I live in a country where English is a foreign language, so the only book I could buy was Visual Basic 2005 which I did not even know it existed.

Now, what shall I do to upgrade VB .Net I have to VB 2005?
I could not find a clear guide from Microsoft.
Is there a download to upgrade, or shall I have to buy an upgrade?

Thank you in advance.

VB 2005 is in beta and not released yet. There are some significant changes in it versus VB 2003. I would look for a VB 2003 book.

Thank you for your answer.
I hate buying books without paging through them first.
As I said, I live in a non English country and books in English are not easy to find.
But anyway, if there is VB 2005 in the near future, I am willing to prepare for it.
I saw in the VB 2005 book I purchased already the three new things in VB 2005, namely Generics, My Object and New Operators. This sounds interesting.
I just wanted to know if the upgrade from VB .NET to VB 2005 was just a free download, please.

I highly doubt it will be a free download. Since the releases will be I believe over 2 years apart, I doubt they will have a separate, cheaper upgrade from 2003 than from 2002 or Visual Studio 6.

However, I had read that the standard or basic editions or whatever they are going to be called for 2005 will be around US $50, but I'm not sure.

You can download the Visual Basic 2005 Express version for free however--although in the end, it probably won't be supported by MS since its like a beta. You can get it at MSDN.Microsoft.com.

You should be able to order from Amazon.com (the US site). You'll have to pay international shipping, and perhaps some customs duties, but it ought to be possible. A lot of the books they offer have a chapter or table-of-contents that are viewable before you buy (very nice!)

If you live in a country with a high reported credit-card fraud rate (Romania comes to mind), you might need to make alternative payment arrangements.

BlueWin,

You should look into
They let you browse books and read them online for a monthly charge. I think it's around $15 a month. Cheaper than most single books anyway. They have tons of stuff on .Net.

That's right! I saw that in one of their books while I was in the bookshop, but then forgot it.

Many thanks for this reminder. It's probably the best I could have.
