Is your DNS Settings corrects on the XP Machine? put the ip address of WIn2000 Server as the "Prefferd DNS Server" on the XP Client TCP/IP Properties.

I faced the same problem at a customer's site, I used the link below from Symantec to download the removal tool

Verify the DNS Settings on the XP Clients , they should point to the Windows 2000 Server at the network over there.
Do not use Automatic DNS Settings

You have to use HP Jetadmin Software. If you don't have a cd for it, you can download from hp site.
Install the software on one of the machines on the network, prefarably the nt4 server.
Go to the Printer, print out a Self test from the Printer to get the mac address of the printer.
