SuSE Linux 8.1 Startup of Database Engine.

During the init process for run level 1 (one) or 5 (five), where does one put the link to point to a file that contains the 'oninit' start for something like the Informix Database Engine? Conversly, where would the shutdown for the engine be placed? I mean in the '/etc/?' directories. %-) Any...

What Happened to my LAN seeing the *nix machine?

I have two SCO Unix boxes. The production box is visible to the MS network. The development box is the one that went away. Normally from an MS box all that needs to be done is to add a host using their IPAddr and it will find the machine and post it to the network using the host name. All here...

What Happened to my LAN seeing the *nix machine?

Up until two days ago, all of the PC's on the internal LAN could see the SCO Unix box when viewing "My Network Places" on their computers. Nothing in the environment, naming convention, or way of IPAddresses were changed. The Unix box is still pingable from all over but will not show...

Found this SCO/Linux stuff this morning.

WAGNER'S WEBLOG Ahhhhh, summertime...and the lawyers are busy. Okay, so Gershwin it's not. But Red Hat decided to counter The SCO Group's lawsuit against IBM and unspecified others for violating its open source intellectual property. In its' suit, Red Hat questioned the validity of SCO's...

How to know how long does a query takes

You Could measure the time difference between the first case an the second just like this for example SELECT CURRENT FROM SYSTABLES; --your query SELECT CURRENT FROM SYSTABLES; in both scenarios, the cost is subjected to more than just time, the statistics could be different.

    Reloading the SCO OpenServer

A moment … of your time. Question: If it is necessary to reload the operating system, SCO OpenServer 5.x.x, on to the present semi-functional operating development machine, is it possible and will it clobber any of the existing stuff NOT contained within the operating system? Jerry
