On NT 4.0 there is no DCDIAG and such. Tools used for network connectivity are ping -a, nbtstat, and netstat,
Go to the command line and use a /? after the command name and you will see the help associated with the commands.

Use IPCONFIG /all, at the COMMAND prompt to confirm the 98 PCs have the address of the WINS server(s). Next register the 98 PCs with WINS servers using NBTSTAT -RR (must use capitals), at the COMMAND prompt. Then use ping with -a the netbios name.

Are there any other administrators who might have a hold on the "public" share?
If so, this will create this type of symptom
It's possible that someone else, or another PC is writing to the folder and "locking" it.

a couple of things you can do.
1. set up a client reservation for your client or
2. set up the lease time to be of less time.
Sounds as thought the DHCP lease time is too long.

After swithching from a T-1 line to DTV DSL, for the proxy, the Gateway will not renew the IP address and loses Internet connectivity. IPCONFIG /renew won't work. I have to reboot the system about once per day. Any Ideas, other than requesting a static IP address?
