I mentioned not running virus software b/c I know that really can slow a system down. I was having problems with this long before I uninstalled Norton.
I check frequently for viruses, adware, malware, spyware...
At any rate - I can try the hardware first. I recently had my computer "in the...
It's been awhile since I explored this issue, but it is still present. I recently had my RAID rebuilt & a new drive installed, as 1 had failed, but I still have system stutters when playing music from the HD.
I looked thru the IRQ settings and I don't see a conflict. There is definitely...
Yes.
Currently I have version 6.3.11 installed. I checked for upgrades after you asked - do I need to install the latest version. I rarely use the software - mostly just for backups, but if it's conflicting I can use something else...
tx for your help.
Yes. I had a defective mobo, so when I got the new one, I removed all of the old pad and went with Artic Silver.
I think I just need to try to reseat it, but I also think - if I am going to go and do that, I might as well spend $40-$50 and replace it with something better.
Right now, idle...
I've written here before for this issue, but it remains unresolved after much exploring.
Whenever I play music - my system lags or something and the music stutters & skips. Sometimes it pops as well, but it can best be described as a "lag/stutter". It seems like it will happen if something is...
Thank you for all of the advice - I will try to reseat the heatsink and fan first - then look into the Zalman. Anyone else have good experience with Zalman?
Do you often find it necessary to replace the stock heatsink and fan b/c they are inadequate? I've read differing opinions. Some say...
I seem to remember this always being a problem, but more so when burning music CDs and whatnot - not low-load tasks (checking email, surfing the web).
I am not sure what the airflow pattern is exactly. There are 2 80 fans in front that "suck" air in and 2 80 fans in back to blow air out the...
Hi all,
Currently my p4 socket 478 prescott processor is running hot. Idle temps can be 70 degrees.
I am using the stock fan & heatsink which was installed w/ Artic Silver thermal paste. I also have 4 case fans running.
Is it possible the thermal paste has failed, or was not an even...
Great response! My secondary IDE channel is in PIO mode. Now I just need to decipher the instructions on how to change it...
I will report back. I hope this does it. I am pretty frustrated!
Tx again BigBadBen
Hoping a bump to this thread will help.
Since my last post I have:
Removed the PCI soundcard
Enabled onboard sound
removed many of the background programs from startup
I am still experiencing stuttered music, lagging and "popping". I suppose I can try to remove iTunes and see if it still...
It's not happening on CD playback. I am using iTunes mostly & sometimes WMP.
It does happen when streaming online...
I just upgraded to WMP 10 and it's still happening...ugh
Should I make any changes to Sample Rate Conversion? Someone else suggested to move it to "good"...
I was hoping you would post too. You've helped me with some dousies :) Like the time my cat interupted a bios update....
at any rate...it still seems to be stuttering, lagging...
ok...I did defrag yesterday...to no avail. Where would I change "indexing and prefetching"?
Temps on the CPU never seem to be above say 40deg F. Right now they are 33 deg.
I'm stumped. I had an old Gateway that did the same thing. I thought it was just due to lack of memory or CPU power...
Yes. Everything seems to be working fine.
Although it did state that my soundcard does not support hardware buffering. Sounds will only play back from software buffers - does that help?
This was occuring before SP2 upgrade
Where would I look for MediaCenter? I doubt I have anything like that installed.
I understand about the buffer for streaming, but it also happens with music on my HD. It's like a lag in my system. I scanned for spyware, adware and cleaned stuff up, but it's still happening. It seems to...
It happens when I stream online radio, playback mp3's, watch video snips on MSN...
There doesn't seem to be any pattern for the CPU load. I've watched it happen at 13% and other random numbers.
I tried to change the acceleration and sample rate conversion quality as suggested...
I will try...
I can't seem to figure out why my music stutters, lags and pops. I have windows XP pro SP2, P4 2.4 400fsb, 1 gig ram and a soundblaster compatible card. I did update the drivers too.
Does anyone have any suggestions how I can get this annoyance to stop? It hasn't always done this, but I...
