Don't be so easy to discount RAM, it does go faulty - but in anycase, when you say you installed a new 80Gb HDD, what exactly did you do ? Did you start with a new install of WinXP or did you clone the old HDisk or what ?
Do you know how to turn off the power management features in your BIOS ...
I just answered a similar problem in the General Discussion area,
I had a customers Win2K PC do this to me today, however, your problem seems to be slightly different, do you mean to say that your system not only reboots, but also locks up ? If so, at what point does it lock up ? ie.. does it...
This sounds like a RAM problem, I agree with wolluf, take out the RAM and reseat it, or try one stick at a time, or replace it altogether.
Also, beware of Norton AV.. if it did detect a virus in the past, it may keep it in Quarantine, and therefore still on your hard disk, so check the...
I had this exact same problem in the field today ...

The problem is well known with 98 - memory leakage...
Try it... Cold boot your Win98...

Dunno about LinkSys but Netgear Wireless routers SSID are Case Sensitive ... ie..if you type in the SSID incorrectly it won't find it, the default SSID for Netgear Routers is Wireless, (Capital W) if you have it as wireless (small...
This thread seems all over the place.. I network these suckers every day, for a P2P it's really quite simple, Home Or Pro makes no difference, just remember that.
Don't use the Network Wizard, do it manually, Right Click Network Places, Advanced - Change Network ID.
First make sure BOTH...
