    Problem connecting to network printer

are you trying to print to the ip address of the hp printer? if so, do not connect the printer as a network printer, connect as a local printer using either a standard ip port or the HP port if one was created by the cd and then continue with the install.

    VPN question

Is there the ability to direct the local application to a specific location of the database? If so, create a script that once the VPN software is exected (I am assuming that you do not have a "tunnel" between the two systems and it is a manual software VPN connection), create a mapped drive to...

    Cache Domain Credentials

Please clarify your statement on "which is only run after the user is logged into the machine". If you have a true Cisco VPN "tunnel" created, it is a 24/7 connection. If you are using Cisco's VPN Client software, then you are correct with your statement. Was this machine ever connected prior...

    Windows 2000 backup issue

Yea, I can relate with that. What is the size of the volumes (outside of Exchange) that you are backing up? What is your basic backup requirement config?

Create A Login Script For An Active Directory Group - How?

    1. Create a group policy for each particular AD group and set the user level startup program to your desired .bat file. Controlled at the group level.

Connecting to a Local Printer across Active Directory?

I am assuming that you have this set up in a domain, (since you are a domain admin). Are you sure that both machines are actually connected to the domain. Usually, when you are prompted for credentials, you are crossing over environments (either domain, or individual workstations). You can...

    Domain Server to File Server

Lander is right, simply create folders on magnum, set the proper AD permissions for the folders, enter their profile in AD and set their home drive to the \\magnum\username share and pick any available drive letter. This will then show up on their "My Computer" display as a network drive.

    Windows 2000 backup issue

I use Veritas so I am not sure if this is available in Arcserver. I use the W2k backup and save it to a temp folder on a drive that Veritas can access. I run it about 1 hour prior to the tape backup run each night. I then backup the exchange info during my regular run. It adds a level of...

How to login as user without knowing password

I guess we take a slightly different mental approach to the situation. If someone calls with a problem or request and we need to dispatch a tech, if the individual is not around, their domain password gets reset to a common password, we log on to their account, make the necessary changes, and...

    Group Policy Roaming Security Question

The environment.... W2k Server AD W2k Pro/XP Pro stations I am interested in creating a group policy that allows certain OU's to be able to log on to any PC within the domain and have power user status on the local PC. I have found an option to "add the administrator's security group to...

Remove or not to remove default shares, that is the question

ncotton...no not directly. I did not read that post but I will look it up and follow it thru. Just curious on what exposure (pros and con) there might be if one was to leave the default shares on the system as opposed to removing them completely. 58sniper...that is what I have heard thru the...

Remove or not to remove default shares, that is the question

Greetings all..... Maybe I was misled back in the early days of the NT server, but I was under the impression that you should always remove all default shares (C$, D$, etc) prior to allowing anyone to connect to the domain (or shortly there afterwords). I just heard of a situation (not sure...

    Term Srv and remote print

Good day all.... I have a two fold problem. The first being that I have an application that runs on a Unix platform and is accessed from a Windows word via kicking the app off from the desktop with a shortcut pointing to the Unix server. Everthing works as planned at the local site (I have...

    cannot login with administrator

After you reset the password, did you reboot the server before attempting to log in? The reboot will force the reset of the lockout mechanism for the admin account. Not sure it will help, but just a thought.
