default recipient policy shouldn't effect public folders... what is happening that you don't like, and what do you want to have it do (for clarification)?

hey, i think you are in the wrong place.... you should never have to add an smtp connector.... keep the default...
if you need additional email domains to be routed through your box, edit the DEFAULT RECIPIENT POLICY to add add'l domains, then make sure they show up in the user's account...
if you have other dc's in the enterprise, they will have the latest sysvol data. you can do an unathoritative restore.
If this is production and your only dc, you should know why you need to restore it, b/c you can choose to restore part or all of the sys state. if you have other dc/s w/...

most likely, the read head on the drive may be dirty/dead.
try to stop the veritas services, then start removable storage media services (the windows svc) and run ntbackup to test the drive...

i have the same error, i tried the regedit, but now i fails and goes on 'hold' status even faster..... nt4, be7.3... i guess i have to try the scsi driver? but why does it work sometimes and most of the time still fail?....doesn't make sense, everything says the tape drive is working fine....
