maybe you're pressing that annoying windows key?
I think it may be a RAM problem. I'm not sure about it, though. try borrowing RAM from a friend, switcheroo them for a week or so, and see what happens. try putting the RAM in different places. RAM is the best excuse I can think of. =/
try this:
1)uninstall your video card completely.
2)restart.
3)go back to the add/remove hardware wizard, and if your video card is listed, return to step one. otherwise, go to step 4.
4)install the most recent drivers for your video card
5)restart
6)if its still screwed up, go back to...
bah, no edit function.
anyways, I think you'd be better off dishing out the $40-50 for a new PSU. that one sounds weak. but definitely use a multimeter on the lines to make sure they're the proper ATX voltages, else you're screwed.
are you using OpenGL? what are your settings in 3DMark? What are your Anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering options? what about direct3d z-buffer, 32bit color, screen resolution, etc? is v-sync on?
you know... you guys are all pointing him to stores.
Pabst fans have a reputation for quiet and longer life
Sunon has a good reputation, their fans are pretty good.
Vantec has a stealth series out, but they move a little less air. they also have a Tornado series out. moves ridiculous amounts...
if you're interested in spending money (or rather, not scared of it), the best combo out nowadays is this:
Thermalright SLK-900U
Vantec Tornado 92mm Double Ball Bearing Fan (119CFM@!!@$!@$)
that'll keep you cold as ice.
the Thermaltake Tornado 9+ (I think thats what its called) is a good...
it's in msconfig (its not included with Windows 2000.... get it here:
http://www.gideontech.com/articles/msconfig/)
and then, when you do that, there should be some stuff in there like "quick power off"...
some computers just restart if you have that setting on , but some turn off...
before I start, heres my system specs:
AMD AthlonXP 2100+
EPoX 8RDA+ (Rev. 1.1... fairly recent)
(2x256) Corsair XMS Low-Latency PC2700
that should be all you need for this... I dunno.
anyways, I flashed the BIOS to the 3129 version, and apparently, it does not support my RAM. so, I go out...
