I managed to get on the list for the beta of PestPatrol R8 (this will be the first major CA release since V5 when they bought PestPatrol). V5 was basically useless when we got into actually using it, and had numerous issues. It really was not ready for prime time. I have not had a chance to...
So I finally took the plunge and bought PestPatrol. It was a pain to install, as File and Print Sharing needs to be installed and enabled on all the clients. I could not find a simple way to do this domain wide, so I had to do it manually on all machines. I also had some grief installing on...
qtin,
Thanks for the help! I had tried snetcfg on XP, but had no luck. I found an XP version here:
http://www.jsiinc.com/dl/snetcfg_wxp.zip
I have not tried it yet to see if the XP version works on Windows 2000.
stclsquid,
That would be great! I did not test the Rod Trent script on W2K, but I did not get it to work on Windows XP SP1.
Please use:
tech@NOSPAM.skylinegroup.com
(remove the NOSPAM.).
BTW, does it install AND enable F & P? Does it work if F & P is already installed, but not enabled...
Now I need F & P enabled (not just installed) for another app. I did not have any luck with the Rod Trent tool on Windows XP. Does anyone know how to enable F & P (either through Group Policy or SMS) on W2K Pro and XP Pro machines?
Does anyone know of a way to enable File & Print Sharing on client PCs through either Group Policy or SMS? The client PCs are pretty much all W2K Pro or Win XP Pro (no SP2 yet - haven't been brave enough! :>) Found out when we rolled out the SMS 2.0 client that it required F & P installed, but...
jbrackett,
I am definitely interested in what both you and bfralia are doing. I am seriously considering PestPatrol, but have had concerns about the product being as how they are in transition to another company (CA). We use CA eTrust AV V6.0 for our right now, and are quite happy with it. I...
jbrackett,
I have also been evaluating PestPatrol. I have used your approach and have been doing testing on machines internally that have already amanged to get infected with malware. A few questions:
Have you managed to figure out why the agent won't install on your PC? I also have this...
I am getting the same error. Did anyone ever figure this out? I am trying to set it up on a Windows 2000 SBS (Small Business Server). Also, once I have tried to set it up and it fails, if I use the same for the certificate server when I try to set it up again, I get an "Object already...
For the last 1 1/2 weeks, I have been having an issue where the server becomes unresponsive for about a minute at a time. This is causing network apps to freeze while this is happening, and the Maximizer (CRM app) gateway PC (running a Pervasive.SQL engine in workgroup configuration, pulling...
Gladys,
No, our external DNS was not configured correctly - one more nail in the coffin of this problem. I phoned our ISP's hosting tech support, and they told me to call the ADSL tech support and get them to create a PTR record. So I called them and found out that I could do it myself...
OK, I have got one problem fixed. I did some more reading on another thread:
thread858-625899
I followed the link to http://network-tools.com/ and did a reverse DNS lookup on my domain:
No host name is associated with this IP address or no reverse lookup is configured.
So I did some more...
Yes - I had picked that information up from this thread:
thread858-608757
I also saw that you had done that in your earlier postings. Everything in the routing fields of the message header shows up OK, but the message ID still has the internal server name. Does yours do this?
PS - I lied...
The firewall is already done (just port 25, not 110 - we don't use the POP3). I have done all the other stuff, but the internal name still shows up in the message ID. I haven't had any bounced messages lately on failed reverse DNS, so I am not even sure if that was the problem. When you send...
Gladys - thanks for all the help. You are correct on RMTanghal's comment - the external DNS is already configured correctly (at the ISP).
I was on the right track, but had missed a couple of things. One more question (hopefully that's it) - when you create the new host record, do you use the...
Globalstrata,
Sorry, I am a bit of a rookie at this. So you create another forward lookup zone on your internal DNS server? Do you do AD integrated or primary? And how do you complete the entry in the new zone? Thanks for all the help.
Has anyone figured this out? I am having the same problem. All parts of the message header show the correct external name, but the message ID still shows the internal name.
technome,
Thanks for the post. The problem I had was actually before the login prompt. I powered it down (via the power switch) this evening, and it came up fine. Must be one of those Microsoft "features" :-). Maybe it just needed some long overdue TLC.
Update to this problem:
Last night I rebooted the server from home (using RDP). I could not get in remotely after I rebooted it, so I was starting to get worried. I logged in remotely on to a PC this morning and the server appeared to be up and running, so I left it alone and came into the...
