I've had no luck using the ZENworks "Secure System User" and I don't see any auto-Admin rights built into MSI files. I don't like setting the registry AlwaysElevated because it's, well, Always Elevated and the users can install software. The comment about SANUR is right on the money. Here's...
Yes, the CMU300.Nap doesn't apply in 3.0. First, although Virusscan Enterprise 7.0 appears to be installed in the repository it really isn't. If you go to Repository, Software Repository you'll see that the 7.0 plugin is there but the actual product isn't. Go to Repository, Check In Package...
McAfee has released the final 3.0 version of ePolicy Orchestrator. Go to https://secure.nai.com/forms/upgrades/login.asp and enter your grant number to download the whole thing. I just got it today and will install on Monday (my mantra: never *ever* install a new product on a Friday...
I've found that if I point to the C:\MIRROR\DAT folder as a local share the update does not work. But, if I use UNC and point to \\SERVER\MIRROR\DAT it does work. Go figure.
1: Adding VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 to the ePolicy Orchestrator Repository is a two-step process. VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 comes with two sets of .NAP files: VSE700EN.NAP for VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 itself, and CMU300.NAP for the Common Updater. Both .NAP files must be installed to the ePO...
I used the Disaster Recovery option to create a boot CD of my PDC. I plan to upgrade to W2K today and want absolute assurance that I can fall back if needed. Tapeware created a BOOTCD.IMG file in its program directory. Since my Adaptec burner software can only handle CIF and ISO files I...
One other thing you can try is disabling the file estimate. Go to Modify Job and then submit the job. In the Options windows select the Operations tab and select "Disable File Estimate." Unless you are sitting watching the job run you will never need to know the estimate.
One thing that you might look at is the SCSI backplane that the drives connect to. We had lots of problems here that appeared to be drive related that turned out to be failures in the backplane of the lp200r servers. One HP tech told me that they had a "silent recall" on exactly that...
I had a server with about 200,000 small files that was taking 5 1/2 hours to backup. It took forever, but I finally got SP3 working and the backup now takes 22 minutes. It hurt to lose the database (uninstalled SP2 ARCserve and installed base then SP3) but the speed increase is well worth it...
I've been using the 1000, 2000, and 3000 series for about four months now and like them all. That said, I don't like the lack of expandability of the 1000's and the 3000's are huge. The 2000's are only 2U, can handle up to three PCI cards, and other than well-known SCSI backplane issues...
Just for clarity, mirroring can be done on one controller while duplexing requires two separate controllers. The best way to do it is to mirror and duplex; if a drive or a controller fails you can recover gracefully. Go to http://www.acnc.com/04_01_00.html to see a real neat graphic...
