Yes, System restore fixes the problem for a session. Its one of those random annoying things. Thanks for the advice on how to try to track it down. I will try your suggestions.
Hi Wolluf, It is Windows XP home, using a P4 2.4 GHz with 1 Gig RAM. Recent software additions were Hercules 5.1 sound, (which caused a few problems)and more recently, DVD Writer using Nero; but the most recent was a new 17" Samtron 76E monitor. Thanks. Bye. David.
Hi, Why does my system sometimes start up with a blue screen and the following message appears in a box: "The System Endpoint is not valid". There is a file name in the box called "ISASS.EXE". If you click "OK", the p.c. just re-boots. Is there a problem with the...
Hi XEMUS,
Thanks, but no, all I want is a pseudo activity light just like the real LED on the front panel of the case, but on my screen. The problem is that my case is in a cupboard and I can't see the drive light. Bye. DM.
Hi,
I probably won't contribute much that is usefull to your problem except to tell you that I recently had similar problems trying to get 3 p.c.'s to talk to each other over a 100MB/s D-Link cable and a DSS-5+ D-Link switch. Longest cable run was about 20m. We had to make up the 20m cable...
Does anyone know of a hard drive activity indicator that can sit on the bottom screen task-bar, which will work with Win2000-Professional? My p.c. is in a cupboard and I can't see the HDD light.
Thanks. Bye. DM
Hi; I have a small network of 3 computers hooked up at home using 100Mb/s cable and NIC's and a hub. The network works okay. We can see shared folders etc. between the p.c.'s. I have been trying to get Outlook 2000 to send e-mail on this LAN. I tried setting up 'Exchange', but to cut a long...
Hi,
I used to be able to change the position of page breaks in an Excel sheet, in page-break view, by dragging the page-break line with the mouse. For some reason this feature has now suddenly dissappeared. The mouse pointer does not 'recognise' the page break line. I recently had to reload all...
Hi again,
Sorry, I just realized that I gave you the directory tree for Windows2000. In WinME it is: C:\Windows\Profiles\"Your logon name"\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\mailbox.pst
Bye.
Hi,
You should look for your Outlook file named "mailbox.pst" in the following directory: C:\Documents & Settings - Your logon name - Local Settings - Microsoft - Outlook - mailbox.pst
Hope this helps. Bye. Electron.
Hi,
I found out by playing around with the security permissions on different folders, (by right click on the folder when in Explorer), that if you log on as the Administrator, you can take ownership of the folder and then change the permissions. I have yet to find out how to prevent this, but I...
Hi, I would boot off the Win 2k CD and re-install Win2k either complete, or you could try a repair of the version you have on your hard drive already. The Win2k CD should give you the option if it detects a version on the hard drive. Bye. Electron.
Hi Chrissirhc,
The way to back up Outlook is to click on the "Outlook Today - Personal Folders" item at the top of your folders list in Outlook. To see the folders list, click on the "Folder List" icon in your toolbar at the top of the Outlook screen. You then go into the...
Hi Tezdread, I am not sure what you mean by Win2k encryption software, but did you know that Win2k will allow the "owner" of any file or folder to encrypt that folder or file. You do this by right clicking on the file while you are in explorer, open Properties go to the General Tab and...
Hi everyone, the problem is solved and has to do with permissions. If you can do something as an Administrator and you can't do it with a Power-user, say, (as this problem has been), then the way to fix it is quite simple, (when you know how of course). You go into Contol-Panel...
Hi Gazzabob, Sorry to say I did not have a good experience with the slow-performance/beta patch. After I installed it and re-booted, Win2k could'nt find the C:\ drive and would not boot up. Ah, I thought, I will use my Win2k system-backup diskette which I created out of the Win2k back-up program...
