From the BCN help:
Function: When this parameter is enabled, a packet addressed to an IP broadcast address goes to all systems on the target network. By default, directed broadcast is enabled.
Caution: Internet service providers have reported forged ICMP echo request packets sent to IP...
On the ERS8600: Disabling IP direct-broadcast
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
config vlan <VID> ip directed-broadcast disable
config ethernet <slot/port> ip directed-broadcast disable
It is on by default on the 8600's and image 15.4.0.0 on BCN routers.
We have this problem on 470's. It happens at the same time multicast traffic is high (checking the igmp snoop shows lots of connections). The 470, 8600 and other switches place responding to pings way down on the list of importance. (Behind things like forwarding packets) If the switch...
I am having problems communicating BGP between a pair of 8600's (v3.5.1) and a pair of 6509's. I can easily get the 6509's to talk ibgp and, after some experimenting, the 8600's are working on ibgp (ospf has to be working on the 8600's or there's no router id). I cannot, however get the...
We have implemented 3.3.3 code and are having some problems with cpu switchovers on several switches when commands like, "show config" or "save config" are performed. Has anyone experienced anything like this?
It turns out that the code we were upgrading from was a custom version. Any linear card that was formatted or written to by that version of code immediately became unusable in any other router. The upgrade solution was to format a card with the custom version of code, copy the image to it...
I have several 7507's I'm trying to upgrade. Each one has a 32mb Cisco linear card in slot0:. On one router, I formatted the card and then tftp'd the new IOS over to the card. Then, after changing the boot parameter to reflect the new code name, the router was booted and came up fine on the...
Is there a means of looking at a port's history? For instance, the last time the port's state changed?
The "show log" command doesn't give me port information.
Netmon is Microsoft's Network Monitor. I believe it comes with the advanced server software or you have to buy Microsofts SMS.
That said, I leave TAP at the default when I save the file ---default is Network General Sniffer. My Ethereal is version 0.9.2(C) My PCAP/TAP is Walts ver 3.00...
I believe that the newer 8600 code has the ability to disable a port if it senses that port having too many problems. Do a "show log file tail" to see if your recording a lot of up/downs on the port in question. Also, a "show port error main" and "show port error...
I have had this problem a number of times. Resetting the box, changing IP addresses, clearing IP arp cache...nothing seems to help other than blowing away the config and rebuilding
