    I've installed the latest version of zonealarm, and no dice. Also, I'd SEARCH this site for that error message, but it seems the singlemost helpful feature on this site isn't working.

    Sounds like either you're not running NT 4.0, or...what it really sounds like, is that you're not actually running an alpha chip. Give us the exact specs on your machine including processor. If you're running an Intel processor, then you're going to have to download the Nt 4.0 Intel option...
