me neither, in my experience it's always cleared the entire cmos when i close the jumpers or remove the battery, although battery removal is a pain in the arse, i recommended it once, then got called up about 10 mins later and got told it was giving a cmos error warning, turns out they didn't...

yup u can short the cmos & it'll reset everything in it, the should be three jumpers for this, they're usally close to the battery but not always, if u still have the motherboard manual it'll tell u in there, if not a quick search on the net u should be able to find a diagram that'll show u all...

where is the drive situated on the floppy cable? or is there only the one connection? also the easiest way to know if the cable is on backwards is when u boot, the power light will come on and stay on.

are u sure you've got the jumper sset correctly on the cd if you're running it on the same cable as the hard drive. make sure the hard drive is set top master and the cd is set to slave (the jumpers are on the back of the cd near the ide cable normally) oh it doesn't sound like a mobo prob. i...

i'd agree, SCSI is far more reliable than ide, just make sure of scsi id's etc. also what os u using?, if you're using 2k it could be worthwhile thinking about the disk type (using dynamic instead of basic so u can stripe or span the volumes)

on boot up press and hold f8, this will give u boot options and safe mode is on the list. i thought booting directly to safe mode on 98 u pressed f4 though.
