    Group Policy

I think software publishing through AD is the obvious way to go. Does anyone know a good program that will easily package up apps into MSI packages? I tried the demo of wise installer and it was very confusing. Anything you guys could recommend? Thanks.

    Group Policy

I have a couple of questions about group policy. #1 - This is a very basic question. Is group policy simply a front end for the registry? Is every setting made in group policy accesssible directly through the registry? #2 - Let's say we want to take administrative access away from our users...

Message for users attempting to log on

Hmm - no way to do that with group policy, huh? I would just like to avoid touching 500 machines at once if possible.

LloydSev, When I set this policy locally it works fine - it's just on the domain that i get the 255 char limit. Any ideas?

    Protected Storage

Oh i understand. I was interpreting that comment incorrectly. We'll need to use cached credentials so turning off protected storage won't be an option. I guess we'll live with authentication prompts being able to save passwords. Thanks.

    Protected Storage

Stopping the Protected Storage service will stop IE saving passwords, albeit you it will not stop an authentication prompt." What did you mean by this?

    Protected Storage

linney - It will prevent saving passwords in a form, but not in an authentication prompt to get through a proxy server...(according to bcastner)

    Protected Storage

We are in a workgroup now, but are in the process to upgrading to Active Directory. Basically we want to stop the saving of passwords in IE - not the passwords in forms, but the passwords that pop up on web pages to get through a proxy server...not sure if there's any other way to do it, but...

    Protected Storage

I am thinking of disabling the Protected Storage service so that passwords are not saved in IE. Will this impact a lot of other things outside of IE? Anything i should be aware of before I disable this service? Thanks.

    Windows 2KPro-Domain Not Available

Well in order to boot to your cd - did you boot to the bios and check the boot order? CD-rom should be first, floppy second, hard drive third. When you installed 2k Pro did you upgrade from another OS or install froms scratch? I'd format the HD and instal from scratch if you haven't before.

    Book on Group Policy

Does anyone know of a good book that simply explains ALL settings that you can set with group policy? I basically want a reference guide that would tell you where to find any particular setting you were looking for...

    Group Policy & Cached Credentials

I have a question regarding cached credentials. When a user logs in using cached credentails, are user and machine group policies also cached? Say, for example, we set in the domain group policy to automatically set the screensaver to 15 minutes and password protect on resume. Then our domain...

am trying to set in group policy the entry: "Interactive logon: message text for users attempting to log on" The message i would like to set there is a fairly long legal notice - if I set the entry through active directory group policy, the legal notice gets cut off after a certain number of...
