I was under the impression that W2K pro would only act as a "server" for a maximum of 5 clients.
If this is the case then you have one too many PC's on the network.
On a Windows box (pref NT or 2000 as I'm not sure this works on W95/W98) start up a command prompt and type
nbtstat -a 172.18.32.5
This will return output similar to below...
Local Area Connection:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.0.150] Scope Id: []
NetBIOS Remote Machine Name Table...
Thanks, neither worked. I think what I really need is the method for password recovery, much like cisco publish for the majority of their products.
The issue with this box is that it has an unknown provenance and seems to be configured already. So I need to know how to clear the password.
I...
When in doubt take the most obvious route. Set up a PC or a laptop so that it has an IP address in the same subnet range as the router (this may need a bit of braining to work out the subnet mask - or it may be trial and error).
For example if the router is 192.168.0.1, the set up your laptop...
Hi All
Hope someone can help with this. I have inherited a Telxon Air-I/0 UAP-E 802FH Wireless base station. I can set up a console session to it so no problems so far. But I do not have the password to change the privilege mode to "write" hence I am stuck with the settings it...
Just a quickie, I've been through a stack of Cisco books, and a few websites and still can't find clear answers to this.
What is the format of the traceroute command for IPX on a cisco system. I know that it is
traceroute ipx <X>
but what format does it expect <X> the IPX network address to...
OK, next question, is this the "Windows" style log in, or the "java" style log in.
If its the java style then you need to use a different Java Virtual Machine. Don't use the one that comes with IE as it is not 100% compatible with the java that Cisco uses.
You can download...
I've never used the "admin" entry only the password. Try leaving the username blank.
Also be very careful of the java VM that you use. I recommend the Sun version over the MS version.
I presume that since you are getting the login prompt that IE is configured so that any proxy...
Thanks Buckweet you have confirmed what I suspected. Now all I have to do is convince the server guys that their server is causing my RSM utilisation issues.
Couple of points...
Have you stepped through all the connection settings starting from 9600 upwards. Sometimes the ports are set higher to facilitate loading or upgrading of the IOS image.
Change the console cable (might be defective).
When you say "new" is it new out of the box...
Thanks for the info so far. Is it true to say then that you apply an IP address to every VLAN that the card can receive, based on the VLAN's you trunk to it from a switch.
Ok, excuse me if this is in the wrong forum but...some questions.
1) What are the practicalities of using a VLAN aware network card. From what I understand they connect to a switch trunk port and carry all VLAN's so that the server sits on all VLAN's simultaneously. Does this mean that I have...
OK, without wishing to add too much complexity to this issue already - here we go.
Historically the network has always been Token Ring and it has only started to be upgraded since I joined the company. We have an IBM AS400 server in our office and overnight certain processing is done to files...
Ok, this one takes a bit of explaining so here goes.
My company is in the middle of a Token Ring/Ethernet Migration and as part of this we are converting our servers to Ethernet. Each server currently has a Token Ring card as it's primary and an Ethernet card to connect to our backup devices on...
Ok, we've just had this issue at my workplace and this is how we solved it. Don't let the systems autonegotiate the speed/duplex settings. for some reason, if you allow NT to auto negotiate a speed/duplex setting against a cisco switch it seems to have issues. We found one of our servers had...
Thanks for all the help. I've downgraded one of the routers to IOS version 12.0(24) which has enabled me to get OSPF running between two of the routers. The third one in my lab is being a bit awkward and not allowing me to downgrade it.
I'll try again tomorrow, but it seems to be having an...
