I am currently running a W2K3SBS server as the platform for a First Class email server. It recently(Friday the 13th) began shutting down at random with an SB Core 1011,1012 error stating that it has detected another domain controller. Looking back through the logs the initial detection occured...
On second thought, if that can't be done, is it possible to simply place a file to be send in the queue folder? and if so how exactly would you go about this?
Can you send commands to Mercury/W32 via the command line? I use mercury as a smarthost and would like for the system that it runs on to be able to send various info and warning messages at certain times or under certain conditions. The only way I know of to do this is with the windows task...
I am using Mercury as a Smart Host for another email system and sometimes that email system sends email back to itself using a fully qualified external email address (user@domain.com)which tries to send that email using the local domains public IP address. This causes a problem since the...
I am having a problem with my CFO's laptop. He has a Dell Inspiron running Windows XP SP2 (OEM, not updated)in a Novell environment (no windows domain) using a USB port expander as a pseudo-docking-station. He has been using the laptop for a few months and now all of a sudden it start...
We are using the HP gateway, but this has been used for years (prior to my time with the company)
The computer in question is using the PCL6 driver that came with Windows 2000.
We do not have iPrint implemented in this company.
I have a Windows 2000 Workstation with NWClient attempting to print to an NDPS HP LJ 4000 on a Netware 6.5 server. The oddest thing is happening, when I print from the machine it prints the first 4 pages, pauses, then prints only part of the fourth page regardless of the application or document...
I am trying to find a free "proxy server" that can be installed on the computer that is going to be proxying for. In addition to my admin job, I do side jobs for friends, family, co-workers, and anyone else who needs help. I have found that a lot of parents want to filter their internet for...
I settled on SmoothWall which is a full firewall with a squid proxy built it. It is a standalone version of linux that is very easy to install and maintain. It did require me to install several add-ons to get the filtering capabilities that I want, but other than that it has been great I would...
There is a standalone server called SmoothWall with several great add-ons it is a caching proxy server (squid) out of the box, the add-ons just provide more functionality
Thanks, I actually just setup a Smoothwall today. The system isn't running "live" yet, but hopefully it will be soon. I do have a Cisco Pix 501, but it is running a separate VPN tunnel. I don't particularly care for them anyway, they don't have all of the proxy features I would like to have.
I run a similar procedure for backup, this is what I do:
for /F "tokens=2-4 delims=/- " %%A in ('date/T') do set var= %%A%%B%%C
md %var%
cd %var%
xcopy e:\fcns8001 /e /h
Once you have used Adaware, Spybot, Antispyware, Hijackthis, etc... then I would recommend using KillBox to remove any other files that cannot be removed. Killbox is basically just a very advanced deletion tool, it can delete upon reboot and it can also replace files with dummy files when...
I know that there is a proxy forum here, but it seems to be deserted. So I am coming here.
Has anyone ever used Smoothwall or Endian as for Firewall and Web Proxy? I am trying to convince my superiors that we need to implement a firewall/web proxy for our company. You'd think after being right...
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person in the world who is being adversely effected by a CFO/Accountant. In my company I am the whole IT dept. The CFO essentially runs the company and he has put his head accountant in charge of the IT dept. (ie yours truly). She doesn't even understand the...
I have narrowed down my choices down to hardware, Endian, or smoothwall. Has anyone out there ever used Endian? It is a based on IPcop so I suppose it is then directly descended from Smoothwall. It appears to have a lot of features that are not smoothwall does not have natively, but I see very...
I need a free web proxy/security solution. What do you guys use?
I have only been with this company for about 10 months and I have been slowly working at improving the IT infrastructure. I upgraded the email server (from 500 MHz box), implemented ASSP, automated backup (no, there was no email...
I have an WebSTAR 4 server running on a MacOS 9 box with new antivirus. The system cannot be upgraded to Mac OS X. Does anybody know of an antivirus that is still available for Mac OS 9? It doesn't really matter if it's free or must be purchased.
Sorry, I forgot about this thread due to recent problems here.
A couple of things that I should have made clearer
1. I am the entire IT dept for a relatively small but very complex conglomerate
2. The server provides quite a few unique services so it sits on the DMZ
I use remote desktop on my server, but I only need it from inside the company. I would like to make it as secure as possible. Does anyone know how to bind it to specific IP addresses or ranges? Any other security tips for it?
