300GB SATA MAXTOR not recognized in BIOS.. please help!

I've had what looks to be the same problem as PRELUDiCOn. I have an ASUS P4P800E-Deluxe motherboard, with a Western Digital 160GB(SATA) on SATA-1 on the ICH5R controller, with WinXP on it. This works fine. I tried adding a Maxtor 256GB (SATA) on SATA-2 on this controller, and the machine...

    Ctrl-Alt-Del vs Standby

My company wants us to lock our computers (with Win XP) while we are away from our desks (for security purposes). My boss says we should use the "Standby" option; I suggested the Ctrl-Alt-Del -> Lock Computer method. My boss says they are the same. What do you recommend? Why? Thanks!

    Keboard problems

quix: I'm using a PS2 Keyboard. BTW, I've already tried another keyboard I know works, and I have the same problem.

    Keboard problems

When I power my PC on, my keyboard does not work after Windows has completed loading. I have to turn the PC off, turn the power to everything off, then power back on. Then the keyboard works. A Windows restart does not work, only completely powering back on. Does anyone have any ideas how I...

    PC beeps at random times

Another good suggestion, Franklin. The next time I get the beep(s), I'll check what's running and run down your idea to see if that's what's happening.

    PC beeps at random times

Thanks for the suggestion, oldcomptrguy. I've had the same suspicion, and have installed some software (PC Alert) to monitor the motherboard temps to see if heat and beeps are related. On the other hand, I don't get any error messages when the beeps go off -- as is supposed to happen if there...

    PC beeps at random times

The beeps I am talking about are not happening at boot-up. They occur sometimes hours after boot-up. So I'm not sure the POST codes will be of any help. Why is the PC beeping hours after boot-up?

    PC beeps at random times

I am getting an occasional POST beep or two well after a boot-up. Everything appears to be in working order, but, sometimes I hear 1 or 2 beeps. This does not happen frequently, only once in a while. Any ideas what this means?

    Outlook Express and Microsoft Word

Pandersen: I've never installed SP1 for OE. I truly believe I have a corrupted file somewhere, and rather than try to track this down any further, I've decided it's time to upgrade from 98SE to XP. That should take care of the problem! Thanks for your ideas! Pete Donahoe

    Outlook Express and Microsoft Word

PAndersen: Thanks for the idea about Word2002. The doc was written in Word2000, but when I saved it, Word 97 opened it with no problem. It just won't open from Outlook Express. It looks like I'm going to have to re-install OE.

    Outlook Express and Microsoft Word

PAnderson: Yes, I allow attachmentst to be opened. OE can open all attachments except Word documents.

    Outlook Express and Microsoft Word

I am using Outlook Express 6, Microsoft Word 97, and Win98SE. OE6 is unable to open a Word document from an e-mail attachement. Word opens up, but the hour glass hangs forever, and the document never opens. My PC usually freezes up and I have to restart it. I have no problems opening a...

How to detect the existence of a menu or prg

AirCon: Bingo! That is exactly what I needed. I don't know why I couldn't think of that -- I guess I wasn't thinking of prg's and menus as being 'files'. I was thinking in the 'VARTYPE' mode! I am wanting to be sure in particular that some of my menus are present before they are called, so...

How to detect the existence of a menu or prg

I know how to check for the existence of variables and objects (using VARTYPE), but how do you check for the existence of menus and prg's?
