Replacing a DC but would like to keep the same server name...

If anyone could just take a look at my proposed procedure and tell me if it will work or not (or if I am taking too many or too few steps) that would be great! I have 2 Domain Controllers in a native Windows 2000 environment (Servers A and B). ServerA is being replaced with a new computer but...

Changing the name of a Domain Controller...

We have 2 Domain controllers and I have a new server that will replace the First DC. I have actually already added the new server to the domain as a third DC thinking I could transfer all of the server roles of the first DC to the new DC, but I need the new DC to have the same name and IP as...

What would the steps be in replacing my original DC with a new server?

Well I have the new hardware, but I have to wait until next week to start the process of configuring the server and loading Win2k Server... But I wanted to ask this one question ahead of time. The replacement DC will need to have the same netbios name as the existing one... yet I will also...

What would the steps be in replacing my original DC with a new server?

That's great! Thanks for the offer. It will be another week before I get the new hardware, but I will repost when I get that far. Much thanks, Mike

What would the steps be in replacing my original DC with a new server?

3 years ago we started our first Windows 2000 Domain with a single DC. Now we have an Exchange 2003 server and a Windows 2000 Terminal Services server (which is also a second DC). My boss wants me to completely upgrade the original DC with new hardware (not an upgrade but a complete...

Is there a java script that will install a custom font for a webpage?

So if I wanted to use a non-standard font in an HTML page, is there a way to automatically install the font to users' PCs that do not currently have it?

Trying to learn about SMTP and authentication.. some general questions

Does the SMTP virtual server need to be set to anonymous authentication to recieve incoming email from other servers? OR is the authentication option only for users who are trying to send out email from the SMTP virtual server? In other words, will Exchange accept incoming email regardless of...

I need CCNA training... Where should I start?

I am an MCSE and our company has a Ciso 2600 router (so I would have something to 'play' with.) My boss is tired of having to pay consultant fees to our Cisco guy and I am tired of having to call him when I need to make a change. My boss is not however able/willing to pay for me to go to one...

Why might an email be stuck in the SMTP queue (using relay internally)

I have an Exchange 2003 server set up to allow 5 specific internal IP's to use relay (othewise it is disabled) because they wanted to be able to use the Exchange server as their SMTP when sending email from their personal/home email accounts (sending of course from their office computers). The...

Anyone know how to create a login webpage for OWA?

When I just click the link to \\exchange_server\exchange, I get the pop-up login window but I would like to create an Intranet webpage that has a form where users can enter their username and password and hit a submit button that will pass their credentials to OWA and open their inbox in a new...

OWA Question... Why can I sometimes login with only the username...

but sometimes it will not let me in unless I use the fully qualified login name (i.e. john.doe@office.local instead of just john.doe)? It is just a strange thing and I wondered if anyone else had this problem. *We are using OWA from inside the LAN if that matters. Is there a hostfile entry...

Question about the "change password" option in OWA in LAN environment

I've set up Exchange 2000 but since my users are on shared computers I am having them access Exchange via OWA. When they try to change their passwords from the options screen, they get a new IE window with a "The page cannot be displayed" message? Is there something I did wrong or forgot to do...

Thinking about setting up an Exchange server... need some direction

Thanks! I had planned on doing that for at least a few of our users but I wasn't sure what port to open. I will jot that down for when the time comes. The reason I don't want the whole organization to have Outlook Web Access at home is that if they come in from the Internet using that it...

Thinking about setting up an Exchange server... need some direction

Awesome, Thanks!!! That really helps me get an idea of how this will work. Also it is much more simple than I imagined. I think I will only be allowing users POP access from the Internet and have them use the full capabilities of Exchange only while at the office. Thanks again!

Thinking about setting up an Exchange server... need some direction

My boss sprung this on me a week ago that he and the higher ups want our own mail server and he specifically wants Exchange 2000. I have a small network with a single Windows 2000 domain and at the moment a single DC (I also have one Win2k terminal services server not running as a DC). My...

    Print jobs do not delete

I know this is an old thread, but I just discovered a solution to our problem with two out of seven queues that did not automatically delete printed jobs from the queue. I noticed that on those two particular queues bidirectional printing was enabled but on the others it was not. I unchecked...

When Win2k server does a memory dump to the disk...

Problem solved... I went into system properties into Startup and Recovery and turned off the memory dump feature and it freed up that file to delete. Thanks for your help.

When Win2k server does a memory dump to the disk...

Yeah, I found the file but I can't delete it? I am in safe mode but it is saying the file is in use? It is taking up about half a Gig.

When Win2k server does a memory dump to the disk...

Where is the memory dump file/s?? My C drive just filled up where an hour ago it had almost a GB free (but I have a GB of RAM so I'm thinking the memory dump file is the space hog)

ARGG! Blue screen after attempting upgrade to dynamic disk!

Whew! I booted from the CD and did a fast restore and it fixed whatever the problem was... and even upgraded the disk to dynamic without any further problems. I think it is time I started creating emergency recovery disks on my system now.
