Do you have a network or modem plugged in?
In some systems the setup is to boot on any activity on the system bus, even reboot with a small movement of the mouse.
On a laptop I use, you must unplug the mouse to put it in standby to move it, or else it may move and turn it on.

If the win98 startup disk drivers work fine then maybe you could use one of them to run your drive instead. Just start up on the disk and check to see which one is detecting the cd-rom. then copy this to the hdd, and insert it into your CONFIG.SYS file.
It may also be a faulty power supply...
I am trying to find a cheap and easy way to network a couple of computers and am wondering if it at all possibel to link them through the modems.
My main problem is that each only has one serial port, but it is occupied by the mouse, ON BOTH!!
So I am wondering if anyone out there has any way...

The only problem being that the bigger hard drives need to be partitioned into small parts concidering that ms-dos and win3.x only support FAT16.
This means that the hard drive partitions can only be up to 2gb apiece.

It seems to me that sometimes, IE will remember it, but it needs prompting.
type the first few letters of the username that it already should have remembered.
Then press the down arrow key, and select the login name desired. It should then input the password for you.

try the monitor cable also. if one or more of te pins is bent or missing, or wires are broken (the picture might have caused it to happen, or a minor power surge(always keep a surge protector between you and the public power system)) then you could get that effect.

"To run Windows 1.01, you need to have MS-DOS 5.00 or lower. It will not run on the 6.xx series."
