Your issue sounds more related to the MCM (Memory contract management) issue. You get this due to various reasons. Some of the common reasons are
if the report result set is very large and when the I-server does not release the memory for this large report.
If your cache size limit is small...
I have seen in one the dotcom organisation, they call their collection of all their internet data which is ofcourse was on one location as their data warehouse, so I think you might not be surprised to see that in other organisatios too. However that becomes a subject of debate.
Since your...
It is possible to build a DW to support transactional level analysis and aggregatable analysis. But it requires a lot of effort to maintain over a period of time.
If you forsee your data warehouse to expand considerably over a period of time then I would suggest to maintain a seperate...
Thanks John. I will join lookup Age to the Member fact table.
The reason I joined the lookup Age Hierarchy (lookup Age, Lookup Age Category, Lookup Age Group) to the Member dimension table is that, it will not increase the size of the Member fact table and also I can create 1:M...
Scenario:
Medical Background:
Dimensions tables : Provider, DRG, Type of Service, Member, ICD9 Codes, Line Of Business, Age, Time.
Fact table: ClaimInpatientFact, ClaimOutpatientfact, ClaimPharmafact, Memberfact.
Granularity of Data: Month level.
Challenge: Decision to have the Age...
It depends upon what type of reports you are trying to
convert. Classify your reports into something like
simple, medium and complex. Simple reports usually
contains some metrics, filters and some formatting for
which you can allocate an 8 hour timeframe. Medium
contains some...
I totally agree with iolaper. This forum is indeed
very helpful to me and I belive would be for everyone.
It would also be a good idea if people share their
best practices which they follow and which they
consider is newly implemented and efficient.

Each business have different KPIs, and eventually you
need to target your questions according to that. What you
might need is user requirements questionaire? Going
through the existing reports that business users use will
give u a basic idea of what they are expecting and will...
FLB,
I also had this option open but my I.T head wants
to restrict the access to those set of user completely
for a particular duration of time. I am thinking of
handling it through command manager. I need to try that.
Thanks for your ideas.

FLB,
I too do not prefer stoping the I - Server and hence, I
am currently handling the user logins restriction by
idling and loading of the project automatically through
the schedule manager (time) feature, which I think
is the same as what you have mentioned.
I...
I have a requirement where a prompt which was created
based on the date attribute with a " between "
operator has to display its values side by side in
desktop and it also has to display side by side in the
Web instead of the default display of one below
the other...
You can also use Project Merge Wizard (If you have)
and choose the option of "Keep both" as the rule to
merge 'DEV' and 'LIVE' project to the 'DEV' project
(which would be the target project) their by, keeping
both the objects of 'DEV' and 'LIVE' in the 'DEV'
project and...
I have a requirement where the business wants to allow
only certain users to login during peak hours (between
8.00 a.m to 11.00 a.m)everyday. So I have to restrict
the login of certain users into MicroStrategy.
Do anyone have an idea of how to restrict the user
login for...
NoobieRhyme,
Microstrategy will select the fact table from the attributes which you have defined in your report template. Usually MSTR will select from the table which has the lesser LTS (logical table size). LTS is basically calculated based on the columns in your fact, aggregate and...
Generally speaking you can have as many attributes within the dimension tables, but sometimes even though you design your schema irrespective of the OLAP tools, you might have to adjust your model as per the tool you are using.

Try Enabling the metric "# of days in month" to outer join. This can be done from the menu Data -> Report Data Options --> Metric Join Type.
This issue is because, since you are having your sales fact in your fact table only the certain days in the May month. Since by default Mstr does a inner...
Using surrogate key for your time dimension allows consistency among the keys used between different dimensions. It is easy to maintain surogate keys than maintaining date as a key or any other sequence.
If your going to keep your history less then it is more suitable. I have used surrogate...
MSTRJD,
Unfortunately, I believe it is not possible to recover the statistics data which was not logged.
Remember, to capture all the data, choose the 'detailed' check box for the report jobs and if required for document jobs under the statistics option.

MSTRJD,
I came across the same type of issue few months back and I had to spend almost 3 days identifying what was the exact problem since the EM was collecting the data with respect to user creation, objects etc but not the report and session statistics.
After different Permutations and...
