    Trend Micro vs. Mcafee

No. unfortunately I don’t and I don’t even believe that such a site/test exists. It would be almost impossible to give correct a comparison when it comes to corporate AV (what the thread starter asked about) since every environment differ from the other. So, back to my original post "Can’t...

    Trend Micro vs. Mcafee

Home user products are the only ones tested. I'll guess that it you base your choice solely on virus discovery you´ll be fine. But I would like to count in management, updating, reporting and such in the equation. If one AV software have 2% more detection than the other does not really matter...

Upgrading to DFW 8.5 through ePO

Hi All I'm trying to upgrade DFW 8.0 to DFW 8.5 through ePO 3.5 with patch 2. Everything works fine but when a reboot is needed on the client a blank box appears with no text and the user only has the buttons "Yes and No" to click on. This make a deployment impossible if the user dont really...

    Managing Multiple Groups

Hi Don't you use incremental updates? If you want to check the DAT's before deployment to the rest of you environment... Have your test machines update from a master share where the DAT's where pulled down from NAI. When you see that everything is ok, start your robo copier. The robot...

Old DAT files on new created emergency disk?

Hi The emergency disk only contains a smaller DAT needed to scan Boot Sector and memory. McAfee will release a new tool called CleanBoot http://www.mcafeeb2b.com/beta/CleanBoot/default.asp With this utility you can create a bootable CD with the lates DAT and engine since no diskette can hold...

    Managing Multiple Groups

Hi Why would it be a pain to update them? Once you have created the update task, it's done. Do you refer to the internal update sites? I have one server in each group that downloads from NAI. The rest of the nodes updates from that server. One time job... Cheers AVDude

    Copying Viruscan Configuration Settings

Hi I would suggest using McAfee Installtion Designer if you need the same config on several machines. ePO is another option. Cheers AVDude

Slammer question, Does NS detect it?

Hi No. Slammer only exists in memory. Use the Stinger tool to detect it. If you have it isolate the machine and patch it. This only affects machines that are running SQL 2000 and MSDE 2000 without SP3. Cheers AVDude

    Weird Alert Message

Hi Probably some tweaking in the registry. I'm running ePO myself so I have never gone that way. Cheers AVDude

    Weird Alert Message

Hi You might want to think about that they could alert on a real virus. Run on demand scan and take a look in the logs to make sure that your clients are virus free. That should be of more concern than any network messages. Bare in mind that heuristics gives you that extra protective layer...

    Weird Alert Message

Ok You need to check the log on the machine that sends the alert. It could be a virus detected generecally or heuristically. IE, no name can be fitted on the virus code. Cheers AVDude

    Weird Alert Message

Hi Looks like you have activated Alert Manager on your workstations to send a Network Message. Check your VisrusScan config and turn it off on your NetShield / Alert Manager. Cheers AVDude

Different user permissions with ePO report database

Hi You could use MSDE that comes with ePO, unless you have more than 10 000 nodes. No extra cost there ;-) Of course you miss all the extra features in SQL like incremental backup and all that, but the way I see it... Reports on your AV environment are crucial thing these days. My 0.02€...

Different user permissions with ePO report database

Hi Hm.. I'll guess that the account you installed ePO with have rights on the SQL in the other domain? Do you have any perticular reason to have the database in another domain? If I where you I would go the easy way and have the SQL or MSDE in the same domain. But that's just me :)...
