overlooked the fact the VGA isn't there either. In this case you will have to send in the laptop ofr repair - if it is still under warranty.
It might be a bad motherboard or videocard ( if it is not part of the motherboard)
In either case it sounds like a more serious problem - if it is an...
I second that - Artic Silver 5 (or Ceramique) would be the best choice - but any quality thermal paste should do. I personally prefer it over a thermal pad by far.

Did you check whether there is am extremely faint image on the screen? It might only be the bulb gone dead - happens with most screen failures. The exchange those would be not a big thing ~$20 depending on manufacturer and model.
Let's hope this is the culprit
Cheers

Disconnecting it ( just taking out the power cable and IDE) and rebooting it and then plugging it back in would certainly be a step you should first try.
See what the says. I personally wouldn't think that an old CD game should have destroyed the drive - myabe it was scartch badly and the Drive...
Hi,
another important input - thanks Steve.
I actually had found this PSU for example
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-152&depa=0
which has adjustable voltage pots on the outside - to adjust voltages on the power rails.
I now realize the new problem with th...
Not sure about the features on the motherboard - does it have an onboard IDE Raid controler or any other special IDE controlers? If so and it is enabled you might not be able to install an OS without having the driver installed first ( and an array defined). If so disable the raid function to...
The Pentium M are amazing CPUs. You be very pleased. If you are using it in a laptop - it is a no brainer. P M for sure. In 3D application the P M will actually outperform a P4 3.0 GHZ.
If it is for a desktop - the aopen i915GMm-HFS is a great motherboard utilizing the P-M on a desktop -...

14 ga is overkill. You would be using something capable of 20 amps in open ait to a connector that is rated at 5a.
Current carrying capacity isn't the issue in this situation. Rather it is voltage drop due to wire size, wire length, and load current. As I mention above, a 5 volt 7 amp...

Again
this forum are awesome! Thanks so much guys for all this advise. I have been wasting a few days trying to find the "perfect" PSU that doesn't exist - now with all your help I finally feel comfortable enough to do what I really wanted to do.
So I am going to get some 14 AWG ( trying to...
I don't know the details of your motherboard - but I am assuming that it prefer dual channel memory. This is certainly one thing to look at - even if that might not be the cause - it will certainly make you PC run a bit faster.
You would need two sticks of the same type - either in slot 1...
Is your memory 2 sticks of 256 or a single stick of 512mb?
What games are you playing - some of the newer games do need more than 512 MB memory?
Cheers

Can you see the hardrive in your bios? In the boot sequence it might still be listed even if it is not present. If is shows up in your bios and start-up screen - something really funky must have happened - eg virus.
Or do you have a special IDE controler that requires a driver for Windows...
I would say in the absense of a power supply in the case that this will allow possible adaptation for a large extraction fan

Get extension instead of cutting into a harness" thanks for the great advise - I had originlly planned on doing it - but in getting lost in details ( finding a power supply that has adjustable pots - so that I can raise the voltage to counteract current loss due to the longer cables )
I already...
Thanks for your reply ceh4702!
I actually considered using 2 of the Dc2DC boards, but I am kind of hesitant about doing so - not sure how solid the current would be. 200Watts would be below of my draw.

Thanks a lot for your reply Ed. Gives me hope.
I am actually going to use an Intel P4 3.8GHZ on a Mini ITX Mobo ( 6.9"X6.9") - the motherboard obviously is tiny - not sure what this has done in terms of the quality of the motherboard...

Hi,
I am trying to build a mini PC which has a very high power consumption ( ~400 - 450 Watts)
I cannot find any standard PSU that meet my size requirments and I am considering custumizing a Power Supply to have it sit externally - by lengthening all the cables ( 20 Pin etc. ). This would help...
