lcd and VGA do not come on at all. memory is good. power is there and hard drive indicator light comes on for a second....what might be the problem?

Did you check whether there is am extremely faint image on the screen? It might only be the bulb gone dead - happens with most screen failures. The exchange those would be not a big thing ~$20 depending on manufacturer and model.

Let's hope this is the culprit

Cheers

You are not even POSTing, much less booting. Send it in for repair.

Plug a monitor into the back of it and see if it comes on then.

overlooked the fact the VGA isn't there either. In this case you will have to send in the laptop ofr repair - if it is still under warranty.

It might be a bad motherboard or videocard ( if it is not part of the motherboard)

In either case it sounds like a more serious problem - if it is an older laptop - from my experience - fixing the problem often is more expensive thatn a new unit.
