    pSeries 7026-6H1 p660

Thanks for the heads-up DukeSSD, but the disks that were in the p660 were not preinstalled, so it didn't show up in the bootlist. Once the diagnostics were done, it was able to detect the hard disk, using the diag. CD. Regards.

    pSeries 7026-6H1 p660

Hi, I have a p660-6H1 server that I am having a problem with. When it boots up, there is no available SCSI disks in the boot list. Does this mean that the disks are dead ? I have gone in to the SMS menu and it does not list the disks. What is wrong ? Thank you in advance.

    LUNs data changed

This is your management console, I assume ? If it is, messages such as these will be sent to it. Do a diagnostic run on your FastT to see if there are any problems.

    Extend Array

Sorry. This type of extending only works on Dynamic disks, and Windows 2000 has a limitation in that if your disks are not dynamic, you cannot do an extend function. Even then it will not happen dynamically. You will see a new disk partition and this will be seperate from the one that you...

Do check your hardware zoning setting for that server to see if it is isolated from the others or not.

    IBM vs HP vs Certance

You heard wrong. The technology for LTO is basically derived from another IBM Tape technology called Magstar which is used in the Petroleum/Gas industry. So, in terms of speed as well as reliability, IBM is going to be faster and as reliable if not more. Who did you hear this from ? If there...

IBM ServeRAID problem with windows 2000 or XP

Linux has built in default SCSI driver which will recognize the adapter as a SCSI device if there is no driver for the adapter, and ServeRAID adapter drivers are some of the default drivers that Linux loads when it detects the adapter in your hardware. In Windows, I do not think it is the same...

Which version of Linux to use?

s/he is a newbie for goodness sake... Start with a easy Linux distribution such as Knoppix, Mandrake, Suse , MEPIS or Fedora. Debian and Gentoo will definitely require prior knowledge of Linux to get the full use of it.

    System restore

Ditto that. mksysb only backs up rootvg. Use backup, tar, dd, sysback, etc. to backup other VGs. 2 AIX servers, looking at same volume. One of the AIX servers has to own the volume. The other one will be able to access it though it may not be able to write to it. How can the system get...

    Paging or not?

If your servers are dying, then it is most probably not your AIX OS that is the problem. It could be your application that is grabbing too much memory and leaking it out. If I am not mistaken, AIX has a feature that prevents applications from grabbing too much memory, processor time, etc. You...

    webserver dns

You should register your DNS name with your Domain Namespace Registrar in your country. Once you do that, you will have a DNS record in the registrar's DNS records. They should provide you with two nameservers. You should have the option to put in more nameservers or even input your primary...
