Hi All
Quick question: Anyone have any experience with copying large amounts of files and directories from a Windows NT Server box to a newly configured Windows 2003 server? The reason I ask is I'm wondering if I'm going to run into file ownership and security issues when I deploy my new...
I am in complete agreement with dennisbbb and what he states is generally my thinking as well although not the only reason I do it. You points are well taken and for most IT mngrs...probably the way to go. But.....
Specifically, most of our mail (mail that pertains to business or clients) is...

I guess the difference in cost for the 100 and 150 are quite large. I just checked it out and you're looking at about 800 to a 1000 difference.
P :)
Hi Rob
In my opinion, I would go with the 150. If this is a 3-5 year plan, it would make more sense to install the 8 ports right away and plan for the future. On top of that you get 5 times the amount of storage and the 150 is expandable to 200 mailboxes as opposed to only 40 with the 100. I...
Hi,
My question deals with changing the delivery location of all internal mail in Outlook XP. I have a ver 5.5 Exchange server and everyone running personal folders on their pc's. However, one system is still using the Exchange side mailbox. I have changed the delivery location within Outlook...
Hey JTB
Thanks for the info. On the PDC stuff...no, I didn't leave it in place. I shut it down before the upgrade. I wanted it status quo so I could fall back to it if needed...and I needed. :)
The jist of it is, I didn't want to do a complete "new" install of 2003...too much work. So...taking...
I have a dilemna. I recently upgraded a fresh BDC (synch'd to my PDC)to 2003 Srv. What I didn't account for were my legacy NT member servers. Now...when I try to join them to my new domain...they don't support the 17 character domain name I gave my new server. :(
So...am I s.o.l.? Or is there a...
Sorry....here's the error

I am having problems with my data ever since upgrading to 6.0. The most recent being this error message below and now all my records that contain extended characters...are showing # in place of these characters.
Does anybody know how to get around this? Can I reinstall BDE or simply reinstall...
Hi All
Here's my two cents and a question.
From what I've read thus far...the easiest way to do this is to upgrade your BDC after you promote it. Essentially, I'm doing the same thing here but have not yet got to the Win2K3 stage. My method will involve synchronizing my BDC, clearing out old...
Hi All
I have a question. I'm upgrading my network to Win2k3 server and decided to do the BDC upgrade thing...instead of upgrading directly on my PDC. This way I always have an out if something goes awry. In any event...my question is, can I upgrade this BDC off-line and then turn it up at a...

Hi all
Couple of things. First, why does my DHCP server (runnning on my main PDC)not release IP's all the time? It seems like I have multiple IP's assigned to the same systems simply because they are not released when machines are put on or taken off the network. Any ideas?
Second...I'm...
Update for all interested:
I've decided to go a different route for my upgrade. Instead of trying a completely fresh install of everything, I have decided to first install NT4.0 SP 6 to my new server box as a Backup domain Controller and then promote it and then run the upgrade for 2003. This...

Thanks for the tips. My intention is to try and...keep it simple.
Right now I have only one DC (NT) and no BDC. My other systems are an Exchange 5.5 server (NT) and a Finance Server (NT) running Great Plains.
Ideally...all remains the same except I swap the PDC for the new 2003 server box...
Actually...I was kidding or perhaps being sarcastic. Yes, I did do some planning and I'm still in the midst of finalizing everything...including the email, finance server etc etc.
What I thought i would start with would be installing my AD and then exporting my user accounts from NT. Any...
Hi,
I'm getting ready to setup a new 2003 Server and welcome any suggestions. My current network is a Winnt 4.0 Domain with two other NT servers, one for Exchange and one for finance. I will be throwing the 2003 server on my network this weekend (after disconnecting my NT box of course) and I'm...
