The situation , since your reply , has changed somewhat and I may be happy with everything now - ( that is a BIG statement (! > vbg ! )
What I did in the end was set both the desktop and the laptop to " Use the following IP/DNS Server Addresses " in...

The Heading really states my question here.
What is the difference between an Image File of a hard drive and a Copy of a hard drive and what are the reasons for choosing one rather than the other
I have my Desktop and laptop successfully networked and am able to share both files and a printer.
Both PC's have XP Pro-SP2 installed.
The Desktop and laptop have the names "Dtop" and "ltop" respectively and both are members of the same workgroup which is named "WORKGROUP"
On the Desktop I...

<Im wondering if sp2 would have anything to do with your problem or not?>
I don't see how it can as I used D.I. with SP2 without any problems before I had these errors.
This is a related issue to a similar post of mine recently in this Forum.
I have been using D.I. 2002 for almost 2 years now to create Image Files of my Partitions without any problems.
Drive 1 is 80G and is partitioned into C,E,F & G drives. Drive 2 is 120G and is the D drive.
I have XP...

To all who have replied to this post :-
I seem to have solved this problem by upgrading the NIC drivers to the latest versions for XP Pro.
I feel a bit of a fool not to have thought of such an obvious step before posting here - I couldn't see the wood for the trees I reckon.
Having done this...
In an attempt to follow " To grant incoming connection access
rights......" instructions in the Help & Support Section of XP , after

I do not have " Incoming Connections" showing on my PC.
Can anyone help here ?
The PC...
As mentioned here in my other post entitled "Upgraded laptop from W2K to XP Pro - some anomalies " I have solved these problems by upgrading to the latest Dell XP drivers.
