    Restoring an old backup

We have an old DLT backup tape library that we have since replaced with an Overland ArcServe. There is some information from an Exchange Backup that we need that's on those old DLT Tapes. So, I installed Windows 2003 on a test server and connected our old tape library to it. I installed ArcServe...

    DNS Problem

I have a workstation on our network that had a static IP address of 192.168.1.55. I changed it to 192.168.1.61. If I ping -a 192.168.1.61 it replies and gives me the correct computer name (ABC-1234). But if I ping ABC-1234, it times out and indicates its trying to ping 192.168.1.55. I...

    Diskspace and Logs

I have Brightstor version 9.0 sp2 running on a Windows 2003 server. I have a 120GB drive in it, and I'm down to less than a megabyte on the C drive. I checked and the Brigthstor folder under Program Files accounts for about 85gb of space. What, if anything, can I delete in any of the sub...

Slow Throughput on Brick Level Backups

We have Brightstor version 9.0 (sp2) and we are getting horrible throughput on our brick level backups. We use an Overland Tape Library (Arcvault) with LTO. On our normal backups, we get a throughput of about 300mb per minutes, but the throughput on my brick level backups is less than 2mb per...

Exchange Error On Brick Level Backup

I'm getting this same error again with mailboxes during a Brick Level Backup. Here is what the dbaxch2.log has in it for each mailbox: <10/16/06 20:19 PID:5560 TID:5800> <Individual Mailboxes\Tom Jaquith> in Incremental Backup Mode <10/16/06 20:19 PID:5560 TID:5800> ERROR: MAPI system error...

Exchange Error On Brick Level Backup

Thanks for the help. I stopped the BrightStor/CA Services, deleted the old file, created a new one and ran the backup...I didn't get any errors last night. Maybe restarting the services did something? Or is it possible that text file was too big? Thanks again

Exchange Error On Brick Level Backup

I can't open that file because it's too big. I tried to open it with Word, but couldn't. It's 532,000. Any other recommendations? Thanks!

Exchange Error On Brick Level Backup

I'm getting the following error (All of a sudden) on brick level Backups: Exchange Agent -- (2502) \"Exchange system error\". I saw an earlier post that the accounts that received that error may have a checkbox checked to indicate that it the account is hidden. In every case that this...

    Retention Period

I have an Overland ArcVault 12 with the magazine fully loaded with 12 tapes. Right now, it's only using 5 tapes (Monday through Friday) and it's rotating between those five tapes. The rest of the tapes in the magazine remain blank. I want to make use of the blank ones so that for this week...

    TCP Connection Timeout

I have BrightStor version 9.0 and get this error on the same server on every backup. I just tried a test backup on a couple of files on that server and got the same message. Here is the error: E3392: Backup server TCP reconnection timeout. I stopped and restarted the agent, but no luck. Any...

    Tape Engine Stops

I did a full backup job of one of our servers today and the Tape Engine stopped after the job was finished. There is nothing in the activity log about it. Strange. When I do see an entry in the activity log it does always show the same absl number. In any case, I've ordered a new Overland Tape...

    Tape Engine Stops

I looked at the Errors more closely and there doesn't seem to be any consistency. It happens at different times during the backup...one time it said, "Unable to Position Media" another time it said "Drive Hardware Error - Servo or Sensor" then immediately following that, it said "Unable to...

    Tape Engine Stops

I have version 9.x of Brightstor ArcServe and at the begining of my nightly job, the tape engine stopped. I got in this morning, restarted it, and now the backup is running. Why would this happen? Is this a hardware issue? I also, quite frequently, get EC=Hardware Controller errors...I'm...

    Tape Library Advice

Nevermind, I just googled Disk Staging and found some info about it on CA's site. I just need to find out if it's available on ArcServe 9.x. Thanks

    Tape Library Advice

I have a dumb question, what exactly is disk staging? Does that mean writing the backup to disk first, then running a tape backup of it? Is there another software product involved? Or does ArcServe do this? Thanks

    Tape Library Advice

Wow...you've all given me plenty to think about. Right now we probably back up 150-200GB of data (most of which is our Exchange Server), but I also want to plan my tape library purchase to accomodate an increase in data to back up. So I'll really have to take a close look at this. I don't...

    Tape Library Advice

Thanks for all the responses. I appreciate it! BackupFanatic touched on a follow up question that I had. Currently we use DLT, so this begs the question should I continue on with DLT or move to LTO...I guess it just means investing a little more money buying LTO Tapes...but is the difference...
